Generic map appeared in Washington Post — http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/election-map-2012/house/ — where it is much more interactive and fun (if that’s the sort of think you’re into.)
This is a map of the new House of Representatives by district. The current breakdown is 234 Republicans to 194 Democrats, but Democrats currently lead in all of the seven undecided races.
Despite having more than 30 fewer districts, Democrats have a majority of the popular vote. So if you’ve wondered what gerrymandering does to an area, there you have it.
This is your Weekend Open Thread. You can talk about anything other than politics — or about politics — or about neither or both.
About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
Thankfully, fellow Dems farther north, have been freed from the hateful t(y)ranny rule of Crazy Dana Rohrabacher, while sadly he rides to victory over the free peoples farther south. Laguna , you’re small, you’re blue, and we need some of the deeper pockets down there to end this once and for all…..
Congratulations to Congressman elect Alan Lowenthal……

I would highly reccomend that readers visit these states/districts/voters.
Perhaps a better understanding of their concerns and beliefs would give them a better understanding of ours.
Most people in Orange County have little understanding of the issues that surround those in the “Plain States” or the “Heartland”.
That is the challenge, as progressives, how do we begin to convince young people in Oklahahoma that Blue is better than Red?
Most people in los angeles county have little understanding of the issues that surround those in the “Plain States” or the “Heartland”.
That is the challenge, as conservatives , how do we begin to convince young people in los angeles that red is better than blue
You almost sound intelligent when you plagiarize.
Oh stop joking around. He does not!
I saw the name tgo and started to read the post and was really confused. I thought that he’d had an english epiphany, or else the guy at the liquor store had typed it for him.
Upon closer inspection I realized that he was reading the teleprompter above him.
I’m okay now.
We need to have a program to move more gay people to Oklahoma? We could call it the Muriel Air lift where we give all homeless lgbt youth 25,000 and tell them to make a claim at the state?

Any predictions on how long it takes for Willis’ “Obama/Petraeusgate” post to go up?
What? It’s not yet up?
He has a lot to process since the election results didn’t turn out the way Karl Rove told him that they would.
He’s only into the early part of the five stages of grief. First is denial, next is anger. Then he has bargaining and depression to work through before he gets to acceptance.
Everybody does it at their own speed.
Judging from the F&F/Benghazi post as it “relates” to Biden 2016, I’d say he’s still in the denial phase.
The bargaining phase should prove to be interesting.
All in time.
Just saw this on the Daily Kos, turns out Eric Cantor tipped off the FBI;
“Oh I can’t get enough of the wingnut head explosions….
Just when they recovered from Tuesday…they get a brief flash of light with the Petraeus resignation…the conspiracy theories have been building…over at Drudge the headline read What else are they hiding?
They were so ready for the return of the evil libruls and then wham..nope sorry..
Was your top guy who outed him…
Hahahahahahahahaha
So now the tables are turned once again…
Hmmmm what were the Republicans trying too hide?
Why did they feel the had to silence him a few days prior to the Bengazi hearing?
What Else Are They Trying To Hide?”
If you want to write up a post, please do. We can publish it under Willis’s name.
(Note to Willis: no, we wouldn’t really do that.)
*Actually..it is: Anger, Frustration, Denial…..then Acceptance. That was
Elizabeth Kubler Ross…..in the 50’s! This was the usual series of events when it came to life threatening disease…at least Mort Sahl thought so.
The Kübler-Ross model, commonly known as The Five Stages of Grief, includes denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. In no defined sequence, most of these stages occur when a person is faced with the reality of their impending death and applies to survivors of a loved one’s death as well. The hypothesis was introduced by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross[1] in 1979 in her book On Death and Dying,
*This is the correct version….however..
Like what I wrote.
If you want to get really dark, read “Final Exit” by Derek Humphry.
It sold over a million copies
There are some people I know that I wish would read it.
I don’t find that book dark at all. I find that we expect dying people to undergo, among other possibilities, the equivalent of waterboarding rather than being able to choose a painless death to be really dark.
You’re one of a minority here in the US that didn’t find that book to be on the dark side. Culturally we shy away from discussing death, as if the conversation will somehow hasten our demise. Our neighbors to the south celebrate with gusto the memory of their dead relatives, which I find to be a much healthier approach to life’s big inevitability.
As popular as “Final Exit” was, very few people actually follow their recipe, and instead let the ghoulish doctors slice and dice them with little success to actually prolonging their lives.
Remember the title of the book/movie “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?”
That’s more humane than what we do.
It’s a civil liberties struggle for the future. Future societies will look back at our protracting the agony of dying patients as worse than trephination and bloodletting.
*Little doubt that “Bad Medicine” has killed more healthy people that ever needed to happen. A combination of bad or erroneous procedures added to a bad list of prescription drugs….added to some very poor discovery by both the patient and their families and friends…that need to support you during those so-called “end times”. The constant generation by the medical community and big pharma that “medical and surgical break-throughs” will save us all. This is a genuine “consciousness of the public”.
The biggest problem that Jack had……was: “He really liked killing people.!” Euthanesia has been used for several thousand years…and it didn’t start with the final scene in Full Metal Jacket. Severe pain and on-going agony……could be a reason to move forward with the “Final Solution”….but in 98% of those cases….the answer should be NO. Making euthanesia generally acceptable has severe consequences including the recent death of Director Tony Scott who jumped from the San Pedro Bridge. His diagnosis was a Brain Tumor. Our question of course was….what were his symptoms prior to jumping?
and that is why i am always armed, to help those people
In Willie’s mind it’s not murder…..he’s simply helping to facilitate their reincarnation. It’s a selfless public service.
i have been called a “giver” in the past
