An interesting turn of events to say the least. What I also find interesting is the overwhelming defeat of Measure W, yet the top five contenders supported it to one degree or another. Seems kind of schizophrenic on the electorate’s part, unless voters were able to somehow separate their distaste for Measure W from what they felt were the candidates’ other redeeming qualities.
All but two people running for council were beneficiaries of Chevron’s largesse, so it’s hard to read much into that. Nevermind that I don’t think even one of the candidates highlighted their position on W, realizing it was unpopular (see Flory and Alvarez reluctance to discuss it at the candidates’ forum, or FFFF’s all-but-complete-silence on Bruce and Travis position re: W)
It is . . . confusing. But, that’s what makes direct democracy exciting! Never know what you’re gonna get . . .
Well, if you’re Tony B, you get a t-shirt that says “I spent half a mil on a recall and two elections and all I got was two Council seats”.
i was never afraid to speak my mind about this. the second time i read measure w through i could see the hidden agenda start forming. i knew that it was the most important thing we were to vote on. i openly spoke out against W and i literally tore it to pieces at the chamber of commerce.
as a candidate I wasnt offered a position as anybody’s puppet. chevron,bushala, city employee unions. i love that im able to think for myself. i have the idea that i can reach out to all of these groups by getting all of their support in the next election. i have great ideas that aren’t based on special interest limitations and i know that i have made an impression on all of these players in the theatre of Fullerton politics.
This is ridiculous! Four votes?! You can’t make this stuff up.
Well, me and the other armchair quarterbacks are gonna have a great week thinking up “what-ifs”.
Yeah, and the County still has yet to update its “votes remaining” count, so we don’t know what’s left to count in Fullerton, making it hard to assess what the chances are of the candidates’ positions changing again.

Well, I think we’ll know by tomorrow. I think we’ve got one more day of counting.

yeah but look how many remaining votes there is to count. At this point, we may have to wait a couple more updates before we really know for sure. Dam, this is slow, but more exciting than watching a Lakers game though.
Yesterday’s count. I want to say it’s been dwindling by 1000 a day since election day . . . so I’ll ball park it at 1000.
I’d hazard to guess that the provisional will track differently from the absentees returned on Monday/Tuesday of election week.
I have no idea how the provisional are going to cut. The demographics are all kinds of skewed on this. I don’t see a whole lot of Fullerton residents who have lived here for 45 years casting a provisional ballot . . .
I’m gonna call it Kiger by 6 votes. Keep in mind that 34,000 votes went un-cast. That should be a giant wake up call to anyone who wins a seat this go around.
That’s from Tuesday’s count. Apparently (as of this hour) they did not update that tonight.

Oddly enough, some of the best evidence for why to expect a Flory victory comes from today’s results in my own race.
In the OC portion of my district, I picked upi 1400 votes on Bob Huff on Wednesday, by a margin of 3500 to 2100 votes. Fullerton’s a big part of my district. That’s the power of provisional ballots. What they did for me, they’ll do for Flory too. Those “NO FLORY: Union Puppet” signs would have made newly registered (and thus likely provisional) voters aware that she was on the “Yes on 30, No on 32″ side, even without a party ID. It will be ironic if that’s what made the difference.
What’s left? Mostly more provisionals.
Again – while most of the OC portion of the vote in my SD-29 race against Bob Huff came from outside of Fullerton, more of it came from Fullerton than any other city, so I’m using it as sort of a vague guide to how today’s votes look.
Since Monday night, Huff has picked up 4063 votes in OC.
Since Monday night, I have picked up 5735 votes in OC.
(These additions have not been registered on the SOS website or on Around the Capital.)
It may be that Fullerton is out of line with that trend — but I don’t see why it would be. Anyway, this doesn’t seem like the last word in the race.
It appears from reading the Registrar’s site that they are no longer reporting the estimates of ballots remaining by city. All numbers posted there are now out of date.
1127 left to count today . . .
Kiger on top by TWO. 12703 to 12701.
And in Costa Mesa, John Stephens is most notably NOT catching up with Gary Monahan, though it looked like he would late last week….
with …. HOW many votes left to count? They’re not updating that. But it WAS 1504, and it doesn’t look like they’ve counted more than 60 or so! This is gonna take forever…
There can’t be many left to count if they’ve been knocking out about 1,000 per day. If the latest count sticks, I wonder if Flory will foot the bill for a recount….
They seem to have added very little to the totals today. I don’t know why. It would have been nowhere near 1000 votes in Fullerton.
It’s 127 more ballots from yesterday. No idea why so little. My math says 1000 to go.
Don’t know….yesterday’s fullertonstories.com quoted the Registrar as saying they were down to a hundred or so….
Kiger is toast. The late provisionals are going to be strongly Democrat.

If it’s just 100 or so left, a recount seems virtually guaranteed.
Flory is now up by 10 over Kiger. What a roller coaste!. Next update tomorrow night at 7:00!
