How My State Senate Campaign Publishes a Political Smackdown for Just $50 a Day

My campaign for California’s State Senate District 29 is now out in force — money concerns have led me to play possum until now — except for signs and literature. I’m trying to decide how much of those I can afford to buy. I expect to have a decision about that in a week or so, then signs up and literature out before early voting begins.

In the meantime, though, I found a pretty cost-effective way to reach an elite political audience in California (of over 6000) for $50 a day for up to 75 words plus all the links I want.   I took out a week’s worth of ads in Scott Lay’s “The Nooner” at his site “Around the Capitol” — one of the best free resources (both for its own analysis and reporting and as a content aggregator) for those following California politics. My final ad comes out today (Sept. 14) at noon.

I’ve collected the full week’s worth of ads here so that you could more easily enjoy them — if this is the kind of thing you enjoy, of course!

Those of you who have donated — thanks! I hope that this gives you a sense of how I’ve tried to be both frugal and effective. Those of you who haven’t — well, you’ll see the donation links below!

MONDAY:

Had enough of obstructionist Senate Minority Leader Bob Huff?

I’m his opponent, Greg Diamond – preparing to give him hell!

I’m a Ph.D. social psychologist, plaintiff’s employment lawyer, party activist – and a sharp, aggressive, somewhat witty political blogger. I’ve written about Ed Royce, Chris Norby, Fullerton’s libertarian nihilists, and Orange County’s notably depraved political establishment. Now … Huff’s turn!

TUESDAY:

Politicians should stand against bigotry – but Bob Huff has repeatedly embraced it.

Huff proposed outrageous bills to eliminate schools’ civil rights protections for sexual orientation and hobble school programs discussing LGBT issues.

Despite increasingly common stories of school bullying and teenage suicides, Huff has sided with oppression.

WEDNESDAY:

This past year with Occupy Orange County, I’ve promoted non-violent, lawful protest of how wealthy interests ransacked the economy, then arranged insulation from punishment.

Huff tried funneling public money to his wife’s client Majestic Realty’s redevelopment scam, without ethical qualms. He’s part of the problem!

THURSDAY:

Bob Huff has introduced doomed legislation to undermine unions, clean energy regulations, health insurance protections and more.

As party leader, he fumbled addressing legislative redistricting while carping at actual problem-solvers.

He’s useless. This isn’t legislating; it’s the opposite of legislating. California needs better than this.

FRIDAY:

I’m Greg Diamond, Democratic opponent of State Senator Bob Huff in SD-29. (See my previous ads.)

I’m realistic. My district isn’t SD-05, SD-27, or SD-31. Given other local, state, federal races, and major propositions, why should SD-29 matter?

Here’s why: Orange County is where BAD propositions come to feed and GOOD propositions go to die!

Small contributions – creativity needn’t be expensive – can help me activate OC’s HUGE, but lethargic, Democratic vote.

If the Huff campaign (hi there, Tim!) wants equal space for their own ads — beyond what I’ve already provided earlier today for their press releases — just ask!  More speech = better speech!

P.S. to Vern:  Yes, I wanted to include the “rectal valium” anti-school-nurse bill, but it just took too much space to explain!

Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
