We already know who’s running in the federal and statewide races and the county races are pretty much resolved. But the ballots are not yet final! August 10 is the day when most ballots in Orange County are finalized, right down to November’s local and regional races. (In some cases it’s August 15; see the note above.) So we’re about to see who’s really going to be on the ballot this year – from “no surprises” like Jordan Brandman and John Leos and Lucille Kring in Anaheim to “surprises” in Anaheim like Duane Roberts and a mystery candidate about whom I understand Vern will soon be writing.
Orange Juice Blog would like to present you with a full report on who has taken out papers, and who has filed those papers, in every single race in Orange County — while there’s still time left for someone else to decide to run.
We’d like to — but we’re not going to, because of a combination of being busy, preoccupied, and a little bit lazy.
So, instead, we’re asking you to report on your own communities in comments. Who’s running? Let us know while there’s still time to change that! Your submissions, credited to you, will be ported up to this space as they come in. Orange Juice Blog will alphabetize them for you — with over 90% accuracy!

These are individuals who’ve pulled papers. Not everyone has filed. In addition, Fullertonians have two measures on the ballot.
1) West Coyote Hills Development Agreement / Nature Preserve
2) Repeal of Safe and Sane Fireworks Ban
Which of those do you expect to file papers, Ryan? My guess is:
Levinson, Jaramillo, Hakim, Whitaker, Rands, Kiger, Fitzgerald, Flory, and maybe Reid — yes.
Bankhead, Alvarez, Chaffee, maybe Reid, and Chi — no. Bankhead looked happy Tuesday nigght, but I think he knows that he’d just split the vote and let the FFFFsters reclaim control.
So: you’d have Whitaker, Kiger, and Levinson on the FFFF slate; Flory and Jamarillo on the Dem slate; Fitzgerald on the traditional Republican slate (where Alvarez and Bankhead would join her if I’m wrong about them); Rands on her own (unless Tony is smart enough to push for her rather than Levinson); and Hakim and Reid probably going nowhere, as in the primary.
I wouldn’t be surprised by a Whitaker/Flory/Fitzgerald result. The traditional Republicans might be fine with that, if they can create a de facto alliance with Democrats. Fitzgerald would become the swing vote on the council between the Bushala and Flory factions.

I don’t know enough about Kitty to make a call. I’ll write out Bankhead for now . . . but that lie he told Fullerton Stories scares me.
So, here’s the split with my opinion of how they’ll fall with vote totals.
Libertarians: Whitaker (1), Kiger (2), Levinson (3)
Republicans: Fitzgerald (1), Chi (2), Alvarez (3)
Democrats: Flory (1), Kitty (2)
Indies: Rands (1), Everyone else (999)
I’d expect Whitaker to keep his seat. I think Travis isn’t a lock based on his July performance and connection with Chris Thompson (who apparently can’t stay out trouble . . . if he can and the firework thing doesn’t explode it’s a different story). I think the third seat goes to Fitzgerald unless Rands gets some financial backing. Perhaps Chaffee (Doug not Bill) will get the vote/funding out for Flory & Kitty, but he won’t return my e-mails, so I haven’t the slightest idea where he’s at with his resources.
We gotta get some funding to Jane. And let the other chips fall where they may. What a beautiful, gutsy council it would be, with Jane Rands as the new SQS.

I saw that. It doesn’t show him as ballot-qualified, though, so some hope remains that he won’t make it.

That is Tony’s ex-wife, mom of his sons. She won some kind of Fullerton woman of the year award from Shawn a while back.
I want to get rid of ALL incumbants. We need people who understand they work for us not Corporate businesses. City Council voted down the redistricting measure? I was at the meeting and the majority of people want this! I heard Disney even thinks its a good idea or did they just put on a pretty face for show but behind the scenes they said something different?
I am voting for Greg and I understand Duane Roberts is still gathering signatures. When he does he gets my vote. By the way Duane gave an excellent speech yesterday. I agree with his statement that the Police Chief needs to step down.
