Ya know, conservatives pilloried John Kerry for being a big flip-flopper, and now here they are getting ready to vote for one of the most shameless flip-floppers in American history.

I think student loan rates should be grandfathered to the same rate if you are continuing a program that had the existing rate. Any new program would be at 5.1 percent. Its a compromise that could pass in a Republican house.
Also, I think we should have an upper limit to help prevent students from taking on too much student loan debt like jumbo mortgages. So if you borrow 0-20 thousand it would be 3.4 percent, 20-40k would be 5.1 percent and above 40k would be at 6.8 percent. But I wouldnt be a dick entirely, it would be like electricityu pricing. So your first 20k would be at 3.4 percent, next tier would be at 5.1 percent and it would average out.
I also think students should be required to explain how they expect to pay for their degree, like does their choosen profession have any good paying opportunities or will they be living like a pauper like myself right now?

My idea is to help get the student loan rates at reasonable rates passed in a Republican congress. This is not for total debt, this is for the year you borrow.

Well an anti-statist Republican would want to abolish the federal student loan program. Well, I still believe there is still a need. But I think career studies and evaluation of what courses students take to lead to their goals helps in the aspect in the potential repaying of student loans.
I dont want students to go into severe debt over their student loan issues, but I certainly dont want us to spend over 1 trillion dollars to bail the student loans either. Maybe we could have a compromise where people can forsake their tax refunds as an advance towards not having to worry about their student loan debt by choice.
What career strikes you as certain to allow repayment of one’s student loans? I remember when unemployment was rife among engineers: should students have been steered away from it?
Any proposal that may lead to more marketing majors has to be suspect.
