Once again, the blatantly biased and morally bankrupt Orange County Register has gotten it totally wrong! (“Politics of Pipeline Denial,” January 20, 2012.) Despite the mindless babble of The Register, President Obama did the right (if not politically correct) thing in rejecting the dirty and destructive proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline project.
Not only was the proposed Keystone XL project unnecessary and unwanted (except for and by Big Labor and Big Oil), but it would have threatened vital water supplies, and markedly increased toxic pollution in our country. Clearly, this project is not in the best interests of the American people.
Reminiscent of a popular commercial, the underlying theme of this project is:
Campaign contributions to corrupt Republicans (if the Keystone XL project is approved)———–100’s of millions of dollars
Profits to Big Oil (if the Keystone XL project is approved)———-100’s of billions of dollars;
A Healthy and Clean Environment (if the Keystone XL project is rejected)—-PRICELESS
The Honorable Eddie Rose
Former Laguna Niguel (CA) City Councilman
“A Voice—Not an Echo”
Unbelievable babble from the far left. Truth is this sell out to the so-called environmental lobby means that an opportunity for the U.S. to move toward oil independence is lost, the creation of thousands of jobs is lost all based on conjecture of bad things that might happen if this pipelline was built. The Canadians say they will instead build a pipelline to their west coast and sell the tar sands oil to other countries. When you are paying $5 or more per gallon for gasoline, remember this post.
I don’t think old Eddie is on the left at all, but that’s for him to say. Also, I understand that the pipeline would have actually raised the price of gas.
Do you realize that gasoline and other refined fuels is the US’s biggest export? We are the largest importer of crude in the world, which we refine here along with all of the associated environmental impacts, and then ship it out all over the world. That Canadian tar sand oil puts us no closer to oil independence, it just gives the refiners another source for importing.
That is not our oil, and no one is obligated to sell it to us cheap.
I would rather somebody else refine it and suffer the environmental damage that goes along with it, instead of giving another huge gift to big oil at our expense.
It seems that you’ve been fooled more than once.
I understand that it takes massive amounts of energy to refine tar sands, and that the oil produced and piped will be shipped abroad anyway.
Gas should be taxed more, though, to help pay for infrastructure. But that’s another debate.
Limiting supply increases prices at a constant demand.
The end users are not the beneficiaries of that action.
What would happen to prices if the supply was constant but demand dropped by 50 percent?
*Can’t believe almost eveyone got this one right. Kudos to Eddie Rose, Demogogue is right on as well. Rapscallion taps the right toe…..
Cook and Fool me once are living in the good old days…when we actually used what
we produced and shipped the excess to other countries. Now we just send everything, raise the price and hedge the fuel prices at whatever amount the big guys want.
A very dirty business with Global Oil being played by the Saudi’s like a Stratevarius!
If you really wanted to lower the price of gasoline…..make speculators take delivery on the futures that they buy.
That would cut the price by close to one half.
*Great plan Demo….but who is going to buy it? The SEC can’t get these guys to
even follow the rules they already have.
Taking delivery on futures…..sarcastic remark.
Nobody expects that speculators are going to fill their basements and swimming pools with jet fuel.
We shouldn’t have passed up this chance because it’s clear that the project would be beneficial for both countries. Now the Chinese authorities will most certainly avail themselves of such a great opportunity to benefit from the Canadian natural resources instead of us. According to the latest reports the energy sector in Canada has recently been on the rise and it may contribute a great deal to the economic recovery of the country and help its trading partners as well.
*The State of Union Speech….was terrific! Evidently, the Keystone Pipeline has been deemed an unnecessary addition.
Removing the Oil Depletion Allowance should send the right message to Big Oil…..that continues to manipulate the price with the Cabal between them and the Saudi Oil Moguls!
Restricting Exports of Domestic Oil…..would be a really great move….until of course,
we create enough Domestic Oil….to fill our own National demand first, before any drop is sent anywhere other than one of the 50 States of our Union.
