As mentioned previously on this blog, KPCC host Larry Mantle took his show on the road last night discussing gentrification wars in Santa Ana. An hour dedicated to the topic was recorded on location at Libreria Martinez. Mantle’s two-hour program starts now, but the Santa Ana segment will air at 11 a.m.
Tune into 89.3 FM at that time, especially if you didn’t have the opportunity to be part of the packed house last night at Ruben Martinez’s bookstore. Or you can listen live online! Archival sound will be linked when made available. Air Talk has already provided bonus web audio.
Here’s the archive of the first hour of the program (the bonus web audio is much more juicier!)

I was in attendance at this event. Having been involved in this issue for several years, I can tell you that nothing, absolutely nothing new came out of this event. Everyone involved just regurgitated their previously established positions. There was no meeting of the minds – zero, zip and nada.
It was a pleasant enough experience, but largely a ginormous waste of time.
It was what it was… a forum for dialogue. As I stated previously, the bonus web only audio that didn’t air on KPCC was much more compelling than that which did make it to the airwaves.
As Carolina Sarmiento explained – who was the best panelist btw – there was an organized effort for a “meeting of the minds” that provided to be one in which the SACC was largely non-responsive to in any meaningful way of the term. Of course, I’m talking about the CBA negotiations and desire to have community input taken into account. Councilwoman Martinez’s response was ‘don’t worry, we got this!’ haha. C’mon now!
gsr,
I was there for the entire event, including the bonus web only audio – you are correct – “it was what it was.” And no offense to Larry Mantle or Carolina – that is not much.
What in your estimation would have made it *not* a “ginormous waste of time?”
What were you looking for coming out of a panel/talk show?
It needs to be a debate. point, rebuttal, point, etc.. The hit of the event was the audience. Very diverse, highly anxious, and getting more engaged.
Don’t forget the baby elephants!
