While the GOP and TEA Party groups across the country celebrate many of last night’s victories, Republicans whom I recommended in our statewide and US Senate races were defeated.
Republicans in Orange County must recognize that we live in a very liberal state. There are major progressive voter blocks in San Francisco and parts of LA County where they simply have the numbers.
The only statewide seat still too close to call is the Attorney General office where (R) Steve Cooley and (D) Kamala Harris are awaiting the final count after six and a half million votes have been reported. As of the last report Harris has a 22,299 vote lead.
Michelle Steel, whom I recommended, won her re-election at the BOE.
On a positive note, with the exception of Loretta Sanchez challenger Van Tran, every candidate for the House that I recommended won their races. Incumbents Tom McClintock, Ed Royce, Gary Miller, Dana Rohrabacher and John Campbell.
Every candidate on my list for State Assembly won their races. Curt Hagman, Diane Harkey, Jim Silva, Alan Mansoor, Don Wagner, Jeff Miller and Chris Norby.
Lucille Kring was defeated in her race against Lou Correa in the 34th Senate seat.
A highly contested county race was the office of Treasurer where I recommended Shari Freidenrich over Keith Rodenhuis. Shari prevailed in that contest.
In the Capistrano Unified School District, CUSD, the massive union funded Measure H prevailed. The union was also successful in recalling Mike Winsten and Ken Maddox, two of the CUSD Trustees. Incumbents Anna Bryson and Ellen Addonizio were able to defeat their challengers however Larry Christensen, representing Trustee Area 7, was not able to hold off Lynn Hatton.
Another area where conservatives have taken a major hit were Propositions 23 and 25. While developing nations of China and India are exempt from the Kyoto Accord we have been conned into protecting the environment, GHG emissions, which will only chase more businesses out of California.
The first step to Cap and Trade may have just commenced in CA.
To vote approval of Prop 23, when 20 of our Counties have unemployment at 15 percent was a very dumb move.
And to give the Democratic majority the ability to break the 2/3rds rule on passage of our state budget was another brilliant move. What were the voters thinking?
Now we await to see the loopholes in Prop 25 that will enable the progressive majority in our statehouse the ability to raise our taxes when they are unable to pass a budget on time.
I’ll skip the judges and city council races and simply say that I successfully picked 15 of 24 local council races and 4 out of 9 judicial outcomes.
Yes, this was a mixed bag. I also missed my prediction of the GOP picking up 55 House and 8 US Senate seats
Larry,
Given the illogic of Califiornia voters, it’s a wonder we had any success at all.
Yes, if only we dimwitted Californians had the education of Alabamans or Oklahomans, things would go so much better…
I don’t think that anyone would argue that a public education in Alabam or Oklahoma is better than in California given that those two states are not burdened with the crippliing union sponsored teacher retirement packages dragging California under the water today.
Vern.
The good news is that with the election of Barbara Boxer the Delta smelt are safe.
Have you driven up to the central valley? Take a drive up Interstate 5 or Route 99 and pass the massive dust bowl along the way.
Delta Smelt? I know those are pointless little varmints to you and Sean Hannity (and DiFi) … but this does also mean there will be more salmon again, more people able to make a living for fishing, cheaper salmon for us fish-lovers, etc. etc. I’m not sure exactly where the balance is we should be achieving, but it’s not all on one side.
Last I checked, it wasn’t in the job description of a federal judge to determine whether he will support a few fishermen or thousands of farmers. The continued water restrictions are the largest unconstitutional uncompensated Fifth Amendment taking of private property without the payment of just compensation in the history of the United States,
Folks. While Geoff and I will often disagree on Mission Viejo policy issues, we are on the same page when it relates to MOST property rights cases.
Well Vern let’s look at the propositions. In one election, California voters (we know who the majority party is): (1) rejected an increase to the car tax and protected businesses from losing a tax deduction; (2) took the power to draw Congressional districts away from the politicians and gave it to the people, and protected the people’s right to draw districts in state elections; (3) now require fees to be passed by a 2/3 majority; yet (4) passed Prop 25 effectively allowing the Democrats to pass a budget chock full of taxes and increased spending with a simple majority. Totally logical.
Yeah, it seems they’ll loudly say NO to anything that even SMELLS like they could pay a little more taxes… BUT… the spectacle of yearly budget crises is so impossible to ignore that Prop 25 did pass, and rightly so…
It shouldn’t have anything to do with raising taxes, Prop 25. I don’t know what kind of legalistic or legislative magic could pull that off. But we sure do need more revenue to get this state moving. It’s a real shame 24 didn’t pass, or 19 either – those both would have helped in painless ways. And can we pass an oil-extraction fee now without a 2/3 vote, after 26? Seems like not……..
Brother Vern. While I hope to call in to Juice radio this evening let me simply say that Jerry Brown and I share one thing in common. We are both the same age.
Almost. He is 15 days my senior. As such I don’t think he can lead us to the promised land in our lifetimes.
Several years ago our former state Senator Dick Ackerman gave me a slick promo piece he received from the state of Oklahoma in which they were enticing companies to relocate to their state with all forms of incentives.
Somewhere is this war room office I still have that solicitation. Keep piling on taxes and reg’s and watch how quickly the moving trucks line up as that huge sucking sound you will hear are the hundreds of firms heading east.
Vern. You don’t solve our state’s problems by taxing us to death.
Newbie. Don’t rub it in.
It’s hard to celebrate a few local victories when looking at the big picture in SAC.
I did send emails congratulating challengers Scott Voigts and Bruce Whitaker for coming in first in Lake Forest and first in the two year seat in Fullerton.
The union didn’t oust part of your board, Republicans voted overwhelming to recall Winsten/Maddox and saw that Measure H was a good thing. They just didn’t buy the Union take over BS.
CUSD. We lost.
But please tell us how much money was donated to your cause by the unions. Without that disgusting Brinks armored truck loaded with cash you would not have prevailed.
The people get the government they deserve!
It’s going to be fun watching all of the red states do well and watch California go further and further down the drain!
This state is liberal because it is the state with the most welfare recipients and it’s not going to get better but worse!
So for all the dumb asses who pay taxes and voted for a bunch of liberal fools, YOU are about to get screwed!
🙂
MQ.
Don’t sugar coat it as you paint the real picture of CA tomorrow.
What this state needs is the truth, not candy to the ears!
Hi, Larry by the way:)
MQ. The voters have spoken.
And we are stuck with their decisions. A dark day for Conservatives who promote less government, controlled accountable spending, and the private sector to solve problems.
Hopefully with the Republicans taking the house, it will hurt california entitlements… Less to Non-profits and Americans who get rich sucking off the governments B
The pig is about to get squeezed!
Michelle,
I couldn’t agree more. Texas has effectively liberated the state from its liberals (they can now pass state constitutional amendments without any Democrats). It was already doing well with its recovery, and now it will get even better. Meanwhile, we are left to our jealousy of the rest of the nation.
Actually I think this is very good??? Why you ask?????
It proves this;”liberalism sucks and it always will!”
In 2012 this whole country will be red and liberials being mostly young and the idiot 60’s lot are A. going to grow up and B. going to die!
Morbid I know: but if their was a big enough cliff: enjoy the trip!!!!! 😛
What were the voters thinking? Suggest you re-read this sentence of your post: “Republicans in Orange County must recognize that we live in a very liberal state. There are major progressive voter blocks in San Francisco and parts of LA County where they simply have the numbers.” I would simply add that the progressive voter block extends beyond just San Francisco in the bay area – Marin County, San Mateo County, Santa Clara County, Sonoma County, Alameda County for instance.
Older. Don’t rub it in.
I could have broken down the results county by county.
Bascially it is all the white, 60’s A holes that live on the coast!
Most of the bas%^$D’s rich because of their parents!
I hate them!
NOW THAT IS HATE!
dont wory michell when this state goes b/k and it will who can they blame BUSH AGAIN . no they will look in the mirror , why are jobs leaving the state the whole usa is rejecting obama .liberal policys. except here in nanny state heaven =aka the entitlement state . voting brown and boxer 2 zeros .. especially bozo boxer putting her in again and the other bubble head sanchez ..
I swear when people voted yesterday in this state they much have been saying “eney meany miney moe”…
I swear I hate to say it, but of course I will say it! In this state we have: drug addicts, tribes from south of the border, people with a defective liberal gene and DUMB government employee’s and THAT”S the type of people who voted for welfare pimps like brown and voted for a global warming tax to stop the EARTH from warming……STUPID Bas%^$s
OMG!
*California is a great place…..just one problem: “What we have here…is a failure to
communicate!”…..as Strother Martin said in Cool Hand Luke!
There should have been only one box on our ballots this year:
“Do you believe that California is Bankrupt?” Yes or No! Maybe, a second or third
question as well?
“How many Foreclosures did the State of California have in 2010 so far?”
“How many people are searching for work in California?”
“How much inflation was there in California in 2010?”
“How much empty Commercial Real Estate throughout the State of California
could be used as Government Offices?”
“Who did you re-elect in this election cycle that can cure our problems?”
It kind of goes on like that……
Ron and Anna.
None of the statewide elected officials just elected will be able to fix this mess. Add to that Prop 23 and Prop 25.
We have a contact working for a major moving company in Texas. We were told that they are extremely busy moving firms out of CA.
Based on Tuesday’s vote they will have plenty of work to keep them busy for the next few years and beyond.
What do they say. Someone’s trash is someone else’s treasure.
Our competition for jobs is not exclusively with Asia.
For the past few decades we have seen firms moving to our southern states where the enticement perks being offered are too good to pass up
California is changing.
Government growth is based on increasing taxation on employers and their employees.
Like farming and fishing, is you over fish or don’t take care of your farm, your base is destroyed.
The reaction to over government and taxations is less employers and less employees.
Soon the only people paying taxes to support the governments in California will be government employees and retired government employees.
What I see is that California will become like Europe!
Low-class subsidized housing and the rich living on the coast and in the cities in their hugh homes!
Americans are so squeezed as far as schools are concerned that, “White Flight” is not just going to be a public school problem; but a state problem!
California is going to be like Europe, only two classes: rich and poor!
Michelle,
The rich will have vacation homes on the coast that they stay 364 days a year, but live in another state 1 day. That is how they “the rich” get away without paying taxes in California.
And even the hugh expensive vacation house, most likely owned by their personal charity foundation, so California property taxes do not apply.
MQ.
The ball is in Obama’s hands. Let’s see how he moves to the center and extends the Bush tax cuts. Let’s see if he sincerely acknowledges getting the voters’ message.
cook.
We are becoming a service Nation which tracks with CA.
IMHO the only new jobs to be created are in health care and the service sector.
Having spent 25 years in the high tech world, when personal computers were first introduced circa 1980, I have seen the flight of manufacturing from CA.
In my garage is an Osborne Computer. Check out when Adam created this huge portable computer. We called on Apple as they released their first line of personal computers and was told that we could not compete with the pricing they were getting from Asian contractors. The key way back in the early 80s was the minute you reached high volume, the Asian manufactureres were knocking on our OEM’s doors siphoning off work normally performed in the USA.
In the just concluded campaign Carly got hammered for sending work off shore.
What is overlooked is that her job as CEO was to save the company as she reported to the shareholders. The same applies to any major Fortune 100 company.
Tack on the higher labor costs and expanded benefits negotiated by organized labor in many of these firms and the handwriting was there if we only opened our eyes.
It will be a scary ride as we monitor the next few years of the creative actions taken in Sacramento to massage the state’s budget.
What candidates fail to recognize is that winning the election is not the end of the road. Now is when the real challenge begins.
To repeat. Tighten your seat belts as the ride ahead will be rocky.
Two things will happen: We either go right down the tubes with Brown or he moves to the right to fix the problems with California!
His age makes me think that he may want these last years of his life to be jubilant. I am willing to bet that he may just piss off a lot of entitled hispanics and liberals!
Lets wait and see!!!
heard a report today from rick perry of texas that since jan 185 busniness have moved from calif to texas .. soon all that will be left here will be gov jobs and public employee jobs good luck getting taxes from the very few that are left here . B .K HERE WE COME
Great One.
I wasn’t kidding with my prior comments. The man who shared that data is employed by a nationally known moving company. The only recent case of California beating Texas was Sean’s SF Giants.
AB 32 will only make the situation worse. In fact if we shut down every manufacturer we might just end up with no GHG. Want to trade a paycheck for the global warming hoax?
Larry has this one exactly right.
could not agree with you more larry that prop 23 was a hoax and as always these puppets fell for it
does the Great One even know what he’s talking about?
He’s accidentally right. Prop 23 WAS a hoax. but voters did not fall for it.
brother vern i bet if you ask them to read the pros n con how many of them really read that .
