Krom on Campbell’s latest energy article: “Fuel on the Hill”

Incumbent birther Congressman John Campbell sent out an essay from his website today detailing his ideas – his reactionary, unworkable, useless “ideas” – about energy policy.  Immediately his challenger Beth Krom was out with a rebuttal, entitled “Fuel on the Hill.”  Although I agree with her take, and there’s a nice picture on it, there are two things she didn’t do – link to his original essay which I do here, and provide you with a soundtrack!  Click, and read!

Dear Vern,

You would think that a Congressman who represents a district that is home to the National Fuel Cell Research Center, Quantum Technologies, Fisker Motors and a myriad of other innovators focused on the future would advocate for investments in clean, domestically produced energy sources. Pero nooooooooooooo. My opponent, John Campbell, thinks our best investments are in offshore drilling and nuclear power.

Instead of pursuing innovative solutions, Campbell continues to carry the torch for offshore drSmart Energy Choicesilling without mentioning the $2.5 billion projected loss to the fishing industry caused by the BP spill.  In his bl og this month he says he “doesn’t understand the focus on wind and solar.”

If you support education, innovation and investments in clean energy technologies, please contribute $25, $50, $100 or more to help us fuel our campaign through Election Day.

The 48th Congressional District of California is a hub for forward thinking innovators. We are home to the University of California, Irvine – one of America’s great research universities. The coastline that Campbell would happily drill for one last thimble full of oil is integrally tied to our local economy. It is too easy to dismiss this backward thinking as the self-serving rant of a former auto dealer who owes his fortune to the internal combustion engine. John Campbell rejects science.  He isn’t worried about OUR future.

The truth is, John Campbell dwells in a world in which all that matters is what HE thinks. If HE thinks the world is flat, then no scientific theory will change his mind. Climate Change is not in his vocabulary. Carbon reduction, coastal preservation and environmental stewardship are, to him, just liberal agendas designed to shift resources from other more important priorities like nuclear power and offshore drilling.

What makes his view of the world even scarier is his TOTAL, COMPLETE AND UNEQUIVOCAL OPPOSITION TO ANY REGULATION OR GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT.

Ignorance is not a virtue. We need people in government with open minds and a willingness to learn. As the saying goes, “If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.” America is facing great challenges. Innovation is part of our national character. Those who fight progress will never inspire the kind of future that will move America beyond our current challenges. Their political fortunes lie in negativity and obstructionism.

I’m running for Congress to move America forward.  Please contribute $25, 50, $100 or more to help us make history this November!

Sincerely,
beth sig
