Frank Barbaro, the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Orange County, had a fit today because independent Congressional candidate Cecilia Iglesias got caught in a picture with Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate for Governor, over at the O.C. Register.
Hard to blame Iglesias. I can’t stand Whitman, but the California Democrats failed to recruit ANY Latinos for statewide office – and the best they could do for Governor was to nominate a retread who is doing a poor job of reaching out to Latinos, while Whitman is pandering non-stop to Latino voters.
Barbaro sent out an email statement: “Voting records show that Ceci walks like a Republican, talks like a Republican and votes as a Republican. While she may have ‘changed’ her party registration to Decline to State in 2009 so that she could qualify for the charade of running in the 47th Congressional District in 2010, she requested GOP ballots for elections in 2008 and 2006. I think she needs to explain why she is so embarrassed about being a Republican.”
Fair enough, but why isn’t Barbaro saying anything about John Leos, the Republican candidate for the Anaheim City Council who is actually a shill for the Orange County Employees Association?

Good points, Art. You know, I’ve never been a Republican, always an independent or “Decline to State,” or sometimes Libertarian Party, in registration. But in 2008 I was a Republican so I could vote for the great Ron Paul. When he lost, I went back to being Decline to State. Barbaro doesn’t get it that people are fed up with the two-headed Republican Establishment duopoly, in which Bush and Obama, Gray Davis and Arnold, Meg and Jerry, are virtually the same.
So, whatever Iglesias is or does, she can’t be as bad as the Republican-Democratic (or should it be Democratic-Republican?) axis that dominates the existing, failed, rotten System.
What I hear about Cecilia Iglesias is that she wants to represent all the citizens of District 47; this includes Democrats, Republicans, Decline of State, etc. As a voter of this district, I will vote for someone who will bring true representation to our community, regardless if they are Democrat, Republican or Decline of State. But, the more and more I read on Cecilia Iglesias, I like what she has to offer.
I am a Latino and I also do not like Meg Whitman, but lets face it, she is the best out of the 2 evil. Yes, I agree with you Art, “Why didn’t the Democrats select a better candidate?” Brown is not reaching out to the Latino voters and I am sure he has his own hidden agenda.
Cecilia has a picture with her Lou Correa in her web address (http://ceciforcongress2010.com); isn’t Lou a Democrat? So if Ceci is taking pictures with candidates of the 2 largest parties, shouldn’t she be commended for this? I like her stand on wanting to be the bridge that will link the community together regardless of their party.
Also, I am so disgusted with Loretta and her Hypocrisy. She was interviewed by Univision and she is stating that the Vietnamese and the Republicans are seeking her sit. Now, she is putting the “Vietnamese Community” down? What a HYPOCRIT! Look at the link below:
http://noticias.univision.com/al-punto/videos/video/2010-09-12/las-elecciones-al-congreso
Loretta is also saying for us the Latinos to vote for her because she is a Latina. Now, isn’t she playing the race card a little too much? Shouldn’t she be saying, “I am going to represent all nationalities equally?”
My message to all is “VOTE FOR CECILIA IGLESIAS” as she will be the best representative for all citizens in District 47.
I’m tired of the broken promises from both the Democrats and the Republicans. Our city of Santa Ana has suffered under the power of both. Dornan, Sanchez, they both started out “helping the people” and both let the power of elected office go to thier heads. I met Cecilia Iglesias when she was walking door to door in my Republic Homes neighborhood. She didn’t just walk on day and didn’t have a cameraman there to record the event. I’m an old man and don’t know much but I’m ready for change and I think Cecillia is our only hope for that in this race.
Oh come on Art. You know that Cecilia has been funded by Republicans and Van Tran. There is no way that the signature drive to get her on the ballot as an independent came from any sources outside the Republican party.
When will the US Attorney start investigating the rampant corruption of the Vietnamese political machine in Orange County? We know that TRack and the Republicans consider it part of their operation.
Quimby,
I too have heard those rumors, but I have yet to see a shred of evidence to support the theory. If the DPOC had such evidence it would have come out by now.
It is silly to blame Iglesias. Sanchez is in trouble and it is her own fault. And her party is lame beyond belief. Both have bungled the Latino vote. (I would add the OCEA to the list of culprits too).
If Sanchez loses we will know it wasn’t a vote split, it was taking her base for granted.
Mayor Quimby,
I am tired of seeing blogs like yours bashing Cecilia. If you have proof, than throw the first rock, but if you don’t, than keep your comments to yourself!!
I know first hand that it was “solely volunteers and family members” that helped her with the signature collection. More over, “CECILIA” was knocking door to door and reaching out to the community to get the signatures. Her victory in getting the signatures was based on “grassroots efforts”. It was the community who got her here because “WE” want to see changes! Further, Cecilia is ACTIONS not just words. It was her message, her background and service to the community that helped her to be a candidate, not Van Tran. Please be real…….
We, the community want true representation and do not want to see another career politician like Van Tran to replace Loretta. Van Tran is terming out as an Assembly man and in my opinion is seeking Congress because there is no term limits. Loretta has done nothing for our district and she needs to go.
Cecilia Iglesias is proposing at max “SIX” terms, but, if we the people believe that is way too many, than we need to tell her.
RUDY….
I clicked on the web site you posted and I saw something else, Loretta sounds and looks SCARED of loosing! I liked how the reporter is getting her on every word she says, “PROMISES, PROMISES, ANOTHER PROMISE,PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF BROKEN PROMISES”
http://noticias.univision.com/al-punto/videos/video/2010-09-12/las-elecciones-al-congreso
I like Cecilia Iglesias and will vote for her as she will bring changes to our District 47!
I hope to break the news on this blog once we have proof that Van Tran and the OCGOP are behind Ceci’s run. But whether or not we’re able to prove that, and whether or not Ceci is complicit in that, the practical fact remains that a vote for her is a vote for Van Tran.
And with control of Congress down to the wire, the ONLY people that should vote for EITHER Ceci or Van are people who miss the Bush-Cheney years and want to see John Boehner running Congress, leading the SB1070 Party.
And finally, the picture does tell a thousand words. Queen Meg, who speaks out both sides of her mouth on immigration, but throws Latinos under the bus in a heartbeat the moment John and Ken bark:
Vern,
Again, my point is that Iglesias would NOT be in a position to undermine Sanchez were it not for Sanchez forgetting her base, and the usual bungling of the DPOC. You really need to read my entire post. I built a very good case for this over at my New Santa Ana blog.
If Sanchez loses she has only herself and the DPOC to blame, just as Dornan lost because he too forgot his base.
Yeah, I read it, you make some good points.
So did I.
VERN, Yes, a picture says a 1,000 words. I hold strong on Ceci beeing the link between the “TWO” large parties. Cecilia is taking pictures with the Republicans and with the Democrats. Take a moment to see her web when she took a picture with Lou Correa.

Cecilia is not anti-immigrant; Cecilia is an immigrant herself! She will represent the needs of all the community! and plus, weren’t the republicans who signed off Amnisty back in 1986!
I am a Democrat and have always voted for the person, not the party! I am dissapointed that the Democrats did not select a good governor to run for office, Why Brown???? He has a terrible history. In my opinion, Meg might be a better choice!
Going back to Ceci, take a look at her picture with Lou Correa, Isn’t he a Democrat? Why don’t you comment on that!
Well, evidently anybody can get their picture taken with Lou. And he has endorsed some Republicans recently. But I’m 100% SURE he’s not endorsing Ceci over Loretta.
But what’s different with the Ceci-eMeg photo, as has been pointed out on other blogs, is THAT was an invitation-only event, and Ceci was invited by the Queen’s court.
PS. Rudy. Like I said, a vote for Ceci is a vote for Tran. And Speaker Boehner. And SB 1070. Think about it. Unless that’s what you want.
Vern,
Sanchez should have thought about this when she was pandering non-stop to the Viet voters while forgetting her Latino base.
Did Brown invite Iglesias to any events? Doubt it. That’s on him. Whitman did. Do I like Whitman? No. Will I vote for her? No. But she is reaching out to Latinos. I have yet to see Brown do so, although he is trying to use proxies. He is running out of time…and so is Sanchez.
I am glad our district finally has three candidates. We have three choices, not just the two major parties that are placed by default.
I am not holding my breath that Meg will endorse Cecilia; If Lou would endorse Cecilia that would be political suicide for him! As a Democrat, I am dissapointed that the Democratic party did not select a better candidate, Why Brown?
Our district needs change and all votes that will go for Cecilia will be to have her elected!!!!
Let’s face it……………Loretta is getting too comfortable thinking she is UNBEATABLE………when she was interviewed, last Sunday, by Jorge Ramos from Galavision, she looked nervous and when asked why she refused to do a televised debate with Tran she stated…”we don’t do that in Orange County” she is afraid that the truth about her lack of representation of her district, will come to florish.
MY VOTE GOES TO CECILIA IGLESIAS …she is honest, hard working, and willing to help the community no matter what political affiliation they are . WE NEED NEW BLOOD IN CONGRESS.
Loretta SHOULD debate Van Tran. Screw what’s “done in Orange County,” Dana Rohrabacher always debates HIS challengers. Comments and attitudes like the one above she is bringing on herself.
Loretta should debate the other two candidates “Van Tran and Cecilia Iglesias” We need to hear all three candidates. We need to hear what they have to offer!!!
I’ll vote for Cecilia for several reasons. One, I think we need new blood in Congress. Two, I want to send a message to both major parties that I am sick and tired of the way they do business. And it is a business. I think that most of these politicos start out ok but then get bought off by the corperate interests (more Republicans but it happens to both) or the Labor Unions (the Democrats own this one but the public safety unions buy off the Republicans as well) Dornan got us money in Santa Ana for the Santa Ana river and Bristol street when we needed it. Sanchez helped us get money for some local projects as well. BUT..both eventually forgot their roots and sold their souls to Washington D.C. I can’t tell you how long it’s been since Loretta darkened our doors in Republic Homes. She has time to travel all over the world at my expense but can’t make to my neighborhood. Well, the votes of my family and our friends might not mean much it this big district and maybe it will have no impact, but I’ll sleep better knowing I voted for the person who stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, knocked on my door, and asked what concerns me about this country. I encourage all O.J. readers to vote this year, no matter who you support in this race.
Many of us have been strong supporters of US Rep Sanchez…but somehow it seems that lately US Rep has been taking many voters for granted.
US Rep Sanchez sounded very pessimistic and was blaming President Obama as pointed out by Jorque Ramos, from Univision.
US Rep Sanchez also said several things that sounded very incredible:
1) She said, “Este distrito siempre ha sido republicano si uno ve realmente como viene el voto, este año es muy dificil para los demócratas con el presidente obama, toda la gente esta enojada.”
“This district HAS ALWAYS BEEN REPUBLICAN, if you really see how the vote takes place. This year is very difficult for democrats with President Obama….everyone is very upset.”
What does she mean it has always been Republican? I thought she was a Democrat, running as a Democrat and winning as a Democrat. Very odd statement.
Does this mean she thinks the 47th Congressional District is NOT a Democrat district and that is why she may have been taken the Democratic vote for granted?
2) DREAM ACT & Immigration Reform . . . She said that Democrats should Vote for her, and for Democrats because otherwise there will be NO immigration reform in 10 or 20 years.
Jorge Ramos challenged her on this assertion that it seemed like another PROMISE AFTER PROMISE…he challenged her by saying that if the Democrats have ALREADY controlled the Senate and the House, the House did NOT even bring up Immigration Reform up for a vote.
And it was only recently this summer after many years that US Rep Sanchez FINALLY co-sponsored the DREAM Act, after being pressured to do so. So if the Democrats could not even support or bring up for a vote the DREAM Act that would include military service for those earning legal status, Why would we expect her and the Democrats to do so again…Seems that the Democrats have been taking the Democratic Vote for granted….
I SAY SHOW US that they can bring up the measure UP for a VOTE BEFORE the ELECTION…and we will then reward them with our vote….because immigration reform is in fact in the best interest of the country…
It seems this is the only way they earn our vote, by being pressured and showing us results…and then we can also move on to the larger issues that the country faces . . .
otherwise, if they don’t US Rep Sanchez and other Democrats will not have anyone else to blame but themselves for Democrats and some Republicans voting for Ceci Iglesias – Independent Candidate.
