I have just received this forwarded email from the College Republicans regarding our request that Campbell participate in our Congressional debate at UCI:
Hi Anthony,
I was just informed that John Campbell will not be able to participate in the debate. It has something to do with congress being in session and not wanting to campaign til congress is out. I will get an update with Don Wagner and hopefully he can still attend.
Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience,
xxxxxx

Oh, really? Sorry for the inconvenience you say? We have been planning this debate for months. This is a little late to be a mere inconvenience. To be fair, it’s not your fault. You are simply working for a losing team. But this seems par for the course for John doesn’t it? After all, his disdain for his voters has become notorious has it not? So, as you quote in your signature, “no right is safe unless citizens are willing to exercise and defend it“… lets start defending our right to real representation!
The following is my response to John Campbell. Please feel free to post this on every site possible.
Hm. This is interesting indeed, as I just contacted his office in DC today and his aid told me that congress would most likely no longer in session by Oct. 13th. Furthermore, as the mail in ballots will be going out starting October 4th, he is denying his constituency the chance to hear him defend his actions before many of them vote.
One more thing, I know that John has missed more than 100 votes in this past year alone. Does this mean that his constituency’s right to information is an even lower priority for him than a congressional vote?
This will not go unanswered by the voters! I will extend one more olive branch to Mr. Campbell: how about he names the date, and we will make it happen? Please relay to his office that this offer will stand for one week, that we demand an answer by this time next Tuesday, August 31st, and after that, we will assume that he does not want to address his own voters before the election and will take action accordingly to let the voters know of his disdain for their concerns.
Please note that I will be posting this offer throughout the media, blogs and all other information sources both in OC and DC. Thank you for your hard work and dedication with the College Republicans and for your effort in planning this debate.
All the best,
Debbie Tharp
Candidate for State Assembly
So there you have it Mr. Campbell… your ultimatum. You have one week to answer.
Debbie-
You look like a fool for posting this. Idea: run your articles by a good friend who will give it to you straight before posting– it would save you a lot of embarrassment. Thanks for the laugh, though!
P.S. You might want to rush out and buy “Campaigning for Dummies,” then look up the chapter on long-shot candidates. You’ll read there that endlessly crying for a heavy favorite to debate has gotten precisely zero people elected. Strategy shift in order.
Not trying to get elected silly. I’m not running against Campbell. DUH. And in case you missed the nuances here, (like the big ass bold letters across the top) I am acting in my capacity as secretary for Young Americans for Liberty@UCI to shame John into respecting his voters with an honest conversation. This debate has been months in the planning, and if he was going to use a lame excuse like “I don’t want to campaign till I’m done with my session” he could have told us that months ago. Also, it’s not campaigning to show up to a debate in his case. It is, in fact, answering the hard questions that he doesn’t want to answer.
P.S. If you had read Campaigning for Dummies, you would know that for a third party candidate, even bad press is good press, so bring it on! 😛
Seriously,
The only fool is Campbell. He can’t be bothered to vote in Congress and he is afraid to face his challengers. What a lame wuss!
Campbell does not need these kiddies, and he is wise to ignore them and let them squirm in the froth of their own assumed self-importance.
Y.A.W.N gosh, I have had to type that so many times today. I see the Campbell brigade is out as usual, and as usual you have to resort to empty attacks with no real substance. Guess what? you just perfectly illustrated the contempt that the Campbell campaign has for its voters. I am one of his constituents, a vote that he should be trying to win, not alienate, and therefore, yes, darn important. Are you trying to say that the individual voters of this district aren’t important at all and don’t have the right to demand some of his time? I’m not the one squirming here. How’s that hot seat feeling? Are you beginning to consider the fact that you are defending the indefensible?
If Campbell can’t come, maybe he can just send a spare suit, snazzy dress shirt with monogrammed French cuffs and big gold cuff links, and a matching tie and pocket square.
An empty suit does as much for his district as Campbell does. Oh hell an empty suit would do more for his district because there wouldn’t be any ethics charges for voting for his car dealer cronies.
Oh and extra copy of Atlas Shrugged. He gives one to every intern so he probably has a couple of extra copies lying around.
Its hilarious that Campbell has missed over 300 votes since his time in office, many times for car shows or meetings with lobbyists, and yet he apparently is soooooo busy when it comes down to talking with the voters and hearing what we want to see in Congress.
There are 45,000 veterans in the 48th but that didn’t stop Campbell from voting no on a bill extending veteran benefits. He votes no as often as he is absent, why bother being there Campbell, you should see what your constituents think instead!
Maybe they could have a cardboard cutout of him there instead and ask the cutout questions. They’ll get really honest answers or just silence, but I repeat myself…
