Election, has gathered up essentially the same coalition that backed Councilwoman Michele Martinez when she took on Pulido, in 2008. We know how that worked out.
So the question is, how will Amezcua grow this coalition such that he will be able to prevail over the better-funded longtime incumbent, Pulido?
Amezcua has succeeded in gaining some support from Santa Ana’s NIMBY community, which closely parallels the folks known as Santa Ana’s “Usual Suspects,” but their influence is waning, as is their number.
The only demographic that is growing in Santa Ana is that of Vietnamese voters, who have been moving into town in droves over the past few years. The bad news for Amezcua is that Pulido has been reaching out to Viet voters for some time.

No.
Luke,
Is that no, as in you disagree, or no as in that scene when Darth told you he was your father and you screamed out “No!!!!!” as you recognized the bitter truth?
Interesting observation, Santa Ana also has many Koreans, Japanese, Chinese and Pilipino.
In the voting precinct I worked at last month, we had about 2000 voters on the list and the vast majority were Latino’s.
Of the 2000, about 70 came it to vote and about 150 voted by mail.
Of the 70 who came in. The demographists were split with a third were Latinos, and a third were Asians, and a third were whites.
It is so bad, the lack of voting Latino’s, the elected Latino official’s are courting Asians big time just to keep their jobs.
cook,
What really blew me away, was walking precincts in Sandpointe in 2008 and seeing how many Viet residents were moving in there!
I think this new diversity is a good thing, overall, but now the local politicians are really going to have their work cut out for them…
“What really blew me away, was walking precincts in Sandpointe in 2008 and seeing how many Viet residents were moving in there! ”
Is it any wonder that the schools in that neck of the woods are the only ones with any test scores worth a damn in Santa Ana Unified School district? Too bad we can’t get the “Viet residents” to move all over the city so we could save our schools! It’s like magic the way they avoid the English learner classes and end up at the top of the class and going to college. Can anyone explain to me why that is the case? Might be worth of an O.J. post. “Why are the Vietnamese kids Kicking A on the Latino’s in School in Santa Ana”? I’d be interesting in hearing from teachers. I bet ol Gustavo has a theory or two.
Cook:
The reason there are so few Latino voters, is that too many CAN”T vote and the others CAN’T BE BOTHERED to vote…
BTW: Go Van Tran! Get rid of that worthless Loretta Sanchez…
Jose,
Loretta has been disappointing at times, but Tran is a Mexican basher. And he is a union stooge. He is the worst sort of Republican.
