SANTA ANA – Art Pedroza, a college teacher and safety consultant, has announced that he is running for the Santa Ana Unified School District’s Board of Education this November.
Pedroza resides in Santa Ana’s Park Santiago neighborhood with his wife Camille, who graduated from Santa Ana High School, and his daughter Becky, who also graduated from Santa Ana High School, and his three sons, who all attend local Santa Ana Public Schools.
Pedroza has been an adjunct instructor at Cerritos College since 2003. He is a member of the American Federation of Teachers. He is also a safety consultant, with experience in numerous industries. He served as President of the Orange County Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers over the past year. Pedroza was the subject of a recent article in the O.C. Register about keeping Latino workers safe.

excellent!
Woooo!
I long raied on about the Childless, serving on the board. It will be refreshing to see some new blood. Good luck Pedroza.
Thank you Art for running. Santa Ana needs you on the school board. So many people are afraid to speak up on issues, especially when it comes to our schools. Our children are tomorrows leaders and we need more school board members who reflect the community. I hope you will use this opportunity to change the way things are done in Santa Ana. Thank you also for not backing down to the people who are trying to bring you down. They are just jealous of your success in the blogassfear. Keep on Truckin!
Thanks! I expect to take a licking. If another good candidate emerges I may reconsider but if not, I am not going to let the incumbents run unchallenged, although I may pay a dear price for it.
I appreciate your kind words of support.
Great Move! Good motto- “don’t let the incumbents run unchallenged”
Salzburg2013,
Thanks! If ever there was a year to challenge the incumbents, this is it…
Good luck and keep them fired-up.
“Thanks! If ever there was a year to challenge the incumbents, this is it…”
Right on Art. This is the year when there will be many surprises. Incimbents are running scared for good reason. I hope you don’t drop out. Stay Strong. Live Strong. Run Strong. There will be days when you feel you can’t keep going but when those days come, remember you have friends in the blogassfear who will pick you up and run along side of you. When will you have your first fundraiser. You need money right? I think everyone who reads this blog should give $25 min. and more if you can. Give til it hurts because Santa Ana’s children need Art Pedroza!
Art, your first response above 93:44 PM) telegraphs that you are not a serious candidate who deeply wants the job. Would be hard to vote for someone with that attitude. Either go for it 150% or withdraw.
Been around too long,
Whatever. Why don’t you put your name on the ballot then, or use you real name here? Easy to talk tough behind an anon name, isn’t it?
“never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” m. mead
We the readers of O.J. are that group of people Art and you are our titular head. Prove Been around a While and his buddies wrong. They don’t want you to run. They want you to crawl into a hole and leave them alone. We are with you Art…lead and we will follow.
“Sor Juana.” Now that is obscure. I am setting some of her writings to music.
Been Around,
Like Art said, put up or — up. I guess you think it is ok for a high school (pioneer high) to change principals every other year and have SA schools be in newspaper articles for the worse. Pedroza speaks the truth to dark force, the ones that are not doing crap for SA. But you should know, you’ve been around playa.
Well, a lot of racists will be exposed if Art gets in, that is, anyone who disagrees with him.
Art, I do not live in the School District, nor do I covet any kind of elected office. I enjoy this blog because you permit anonymous posts – that helps make it more participatory than many. My only point is that a declared candidate who says he or she has declared but is looking to withdraw if someone considred a better candidate comes along is not someone who believes they are the best candidate for the job – it comes acrosss as “oh well, I will do it if no one else wants to.” To me this is not a display of leadership of the kind we want seeking elective office. But, as I say, I do not live in the school district – was only attempting to offer some advice on how to better market yourself. Fuerza, I hear your pain – the flight of parents and students from SAUSD seeking inter-district transfers to adjacent school districts, such as Tustin Unified, is almost an avalanche (and this is not white flight, it is brown flight). A sad situation.
Been around,
If I am ambivalent it is because I am already being libeled on other blogs. I want change on this School Board. If that means yielding to another challenger, I am OK with that. It is the same reason I challenged Bustamante in 2008. We cannot allow incumbents to run unchallenged.
Art,
Education of our youth requires a partnership between Teachers; Students; Parents and the Community at large, including Professional partners so that our youth see the opportunities available to them through education.
I know your background (Business Degree; MBA; your college teaching experience; your technical knowledge of various industries) will be critical to your success, and I know you will do well !
I am also encouraged by the fact that you are vested in ensuring greater accountability and the superior performance of our school district as your own children attend our school district.
P.S. I volunteer with Jr Achievement; Youth Motivation Task Force; High School Inc. and other professional organizations made up of volunteers that are working for the success of our youth, and I’d be happy to share some ideas.
To your Success and that of our Schools!

sosi,
I won’t! My wife works in admin at a public agency. A lot of folks depend on such jobs. And I know our teachers are really struggling with all the staff layoffs.
We need to cut at the top…
