Prop 14 - eliminates third parties and could cause a lot of districts to end up with Dem vs Dem, or Rep vs Rep, in the General Election.
This is also Abel Maldonado’s payoff for supporting the largest tax increase in state history.
Prop 16 – This is the PG&E deal to prevent further competition. I don’t like municipal utilities – because they get politicized by City Councils – but, worse – I abhor PG&E.
There is a key drafting error in Prop 16 – what happens to a city with a municipal utility that expands (aka annexes new territory) – this may not be an issue in SoCal – but in the North State, it could be huge. Does that City have to get a 2/3 vote?
This measure is an effort by PG&E to protect their monopoly on certain areas.
Prop 17 – I am an insurance Agent by trade. I hate Prop 17. Why?
Not all companies offer renewal credits and those that don’t will have to raise rates. This is why Mercury Insurance put this on the ballot – to gain a competitive advantage. From my experience in the industry – I have little respect for Mercury’s way of doing business.
Secondly – when you put a measure on the ballot that tells insurance compaines how to do business – it always causes rates to go up.
If you’re a free-market guy like me, it is called over-regulation. We have idiots in Sacramento that do plenty of that – don’t do it to yourself.

And the rightwing Yountville flack slams one out of the park!
Good stuff, Sarge.
