Who should you support for O.C. Treasurer-Tax Collector?

Supervisor John Moorlach thinks we should vote for Shari Freidenrich to replace Chriss Street

Chriss Street is gone and now we get to vote for a new Orange County Treasurer-Tax Collector.  But the candidates are not well known.

Of the three major candidates, one of them has ties to former O.C. Treasurer-Tax Collector John Moorlach.  Another appears to the darling of the OC GOP machine.  And the third currently works in Street’s department.  There are reasons to vote for, and not to vote for, each of them.

Shari Freidenrich is the City Treasurer in Huntington Beach.  She is allied with Moorlach, who has endorsed her.  But he backed Street too.  Click here to read her comments to the O.C. Register.  She appears to be level-headed and pro-business.  She has been endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association and the Orange County Taxpayers Association PAC.

Keith Rodenhuis is the current Deputy Treasurer.  He is both a CPA and a lawyer.  Click here to read his comments to the O.C. Register.  His answers to their questions are thoughtful and show that he knows a lot about the intricacies of the office in question.  He has some good ideas about cutting waste in the department.

David Lang is a CPA and a Trustee for the South O.C. Community College District.  Click here to read his comments to the O.C. Register.  He has some unsavory nutter endorsements from the OC GOP machine.  His answers to the Register’s questions lack the depth of his opponents’ responses.

What to do?  The Register took a pass on endorsing anyone.  They described Lang as being somewhat independent of any party machines, but now I am not sure of that.

Readers?  Any thoughts?
