Remember the 2009 Budget deal?
Abel Maldonado sold his vote to get Prop 14 put on the ballot. Prop 14 would transform California’s elections in to Louisiana-Style elections.
“The problem is the ideological gelding that trades his vote for personal gain, because he has nothing nor no one to fight for but himself”…
Prop 14 is opposed by The Green Party, the Dem Party, the Libertarian Party, the Republican Party and is only supported by some newspapers.
What taxes were raised in that budget?
1. The Car Tax – remember when Gray Davis tripled it and people went berzerk in 2003? Maldonado Doubled it with his vote.
2. The State Income Tax – that’s right everyone pays and they messed with witholding timing as well to paper over deficits. (Circumventing the balanced budget initiative)
3. The State Sales Tax – screwing the poor the hardest. The base state income tax is now 8.25%
4. Tobacco Tax increases – screwing the poor again. Smoking is generally a habit that the lower-middle class and poor engage in at a higher rate.
The most insidious is a separate bill that re-classified Gas taxes as an excise tax, specifically to circumvent Prop 42. (AB6 2009)
Abel voted to create the California Blueberry Commission which has the authority to levy (tax) blueberries.
In a separate post – I will detail Abel Maldonado’s tax increases to fund socialized medicine.
AB3xxx (2009) – fodder for another separate post… forces Prop 1B education spending mandates in the back door. This, like the re-characterization of gas taxes is an arrogant act to circumvent the will of the voters.
Abel Maldonado is the complete package. Oh, and the above list is just 2009.

Both Van Tran and Chris Norby voted to confirm this putz for Governor Light — they need to regret that — especially Norby as he’s not voting as was expected of him.
Tran’s going to pay as he’s got a tougher campaign coming up in Orange County than he thinks, and this is going to come up again. Only Chuck DeVore voted against Maldonado.
