*That was Horace Heidt...sorry!

Hearing Dick Contino playing Lady of Spain for 23 weeks....makes American Idol pale in comparison. Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour...was big from 1934 to 1945...

Ted Fio Rito - now their was a talent:Fio Rita had numerous hit recordings, notably his two number one hits, “My Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua, Hawaii” (1934) and
"I'll String Along with You"

*Actually, we did love Red Ryder...had the BB gun and all. Probably should have mentioned however that Red Ryder was not very popular on TV. It was a huge success on Radio....which we listened to religiously. The Creaking Door, The Shadow, Sam Spade Private Eye, Fibber McGee and Molly, The Original Amateur Hour, Horace Height and his musical Knights, reading the Sunday Funnies and our all out favorite:
Bobby Benson and the B Bar B Riders on WlS....out of Chicago! We could easily go on and on talking about Rodchester & Jack Benny and Mary.. and the rest. Harry Owens and the Royal Hawaiians..

The truth be known..it was indeed Fess Parker that eclipsed them all. He was one that set the standard that in fact only was met or exceeded when the Beatles made their entry into the United States on Ed Sullivan.
