Well, thanks for saying what you think, Cook. Although it makes me sad to see you on the wrong side of civil rights and history. And in complete disagreement with Admiral Mullen (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs) and General Colin Powell, as well as the vast majority of Americans.

What you're saying about the "universal distaste and distrust" (surely a gross exaggeration) of the hundreds of guys you knew in the military toward gays, is what coulda been said about blacks sixty years ago.

After reading from the links I see that the young man is not in the military, but in the guard. Not on active duty, but a week end warrior practicing drills, like being at fat camp and not subject to UCMJ.

Vern, South Vietnam lost their own country 2 years after the USA military left. I don’t think Gay’s had anything to do with it.

To the person known as “Michelle Quinn” battlefield insight? Is that like being there? Or do you have HDTV and Blue ray and can see the details of “Saving Private Ryan” better than I can on my TV.

Vern, “We shouldn’t have opinions as Americans?”

Vern, Americans serving in the military are subject to UCMJ and have given up their civil rights until they are discharged.

And, from the hundreds of guys I have met while in the military, it seemed to me that there was a universal distaste and distrust of gay persons.

Why should that vast majority of the service men and woman be forced to serve with someone they can not trust?

I think Jim was in the service Cook. And so what anyway? We shouldn't have opinions as Americans?

Why don't you say what you think? Did gay soldiers lose Vietnam for you?

You're right, Quinn. I'm glad you're taking the correct, liberal position on this. It's high time to end Don't Ask Don't Tell!

Congrats to Lt Choi, may his courage to fight for his rights and beliefs inspite others to do the same.

“A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do,”

The policy of don't ask don't tell clearly violates the code of honor and needs to go, let those who wish to serve do so as themselves, no one should have to lie to serve thier country
