Professor Juan Cole:

Sarah Palin's turn before the teabaggers was an exercise in emptying the US Constitution of meaning while seeming to exalt it.

She praised US military personnel for defending the constitution.

But she complained that constitutional protections were offered to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the underpants bomber. She said it is 'our' constitution, reducing it from a universal document (the Declaration of Independence says 'all men' are endowed with inalienable rights) to a tribal one.

She said Abdulmutallab could otherwise have been questioned. But why should he have answered, rights or no? Holder's methods got him talking. (Nor is it likely constitutional to arrest a lawbreaker on US soil and whisk him off to military detention.)

Then she said we need a commander in chief, not a professor of constitutional law.
But Obama is designated by the constitution as commander in chief. Is she denying that status to him?

And if the constitution is so great and worth dying for, why is it bad to study it systematically?

So at every turn she invoked the constitution to undermine the constitution.

She is not about law, but is about power. We've had enough narcissistic sociopaths in politics.

And note that Jerry Brown, e.g. Would not be put on CNN addressing 600 leftwing democrats in prime time. I'm afraid of Time Warner now.

*Palin takes the Republican Party away from the issues! Personality is not exactly qualitive political thought.
Name calling still does not fix our economic problems or our international ones.
She is totally solutionless! Why would anyone want that kind of candidate to represent them? George and Laura at least had their own ideas..whether you agreed or not.

Dr. Moore....you misread the message:
Science, Substance and Palin? Three terribly different issues. What, are you her agent?

You watch it....
Maybe you can get more out of it...if you listen long enough!

Scott Brown at least drives a pick-up truck. That maybe the closest thing we get to a Consevative Republican ever again!

If you're trying to make a case for conservatism and calling on Scott Brown to be the savior, you haven't been paying attention. Brown is a conservative on some things, but is a typical New England Republican in many other ways. He's not the national answer.

As far as Sarah Palin's speaking fees are concerned, I'm not aware that anyone was forced to pay what they did to attend that convention. She's not taking "huge speaking fees from people that can little afford it". They're willingly paying these fees to attend the event and hear her speak. It's still a free country and we're allowed to spend money how we wish.

Since you're so concerned about the cost of the event, I'll let you watch her speech for free: http://holycoast.blogspot.com/2010/02/sarah-palins-nashville-tea-party-speech.html

There, now you can stop worrying about all the poor people who can't afford to hear her speak.
