#1,

LOL! What an awful typo! Thanks for catching that.

Vanuatu used to be owned and run by both the French and the English - concurrently. Weird! The U.S. did not establish relations with them until 1986.

As far as I know, they are not beset by hordes of Republicans!

Feliz Navidad to you and yours!

Dear Art,
Thank you so much for this heartwarming Christmas tale. I’m so happy for your friend and I hope he and his father spend a wonderful holiday together. We should remember that many, many, many, of our young men in the prison system are innocent. (I’d guess nearly half) When I’ve visited friends or family, I can’t tell you how many of the men I meet tell me that they did not do the crime and after you hear the same stories again and again you begin to believe them. It’s time to re-evaluate our prison system.

You also said:

“My friend’s dad has worked for years as a mid-level diplomat for the Island nation of Vanuatu, which is in the South Pacific. It just became a Republican in 1980.”

I have never heard of Vanuatu before but it sounds like a scary place. I can’t imagine living on an island that is only inhabited with Republicans. I bet that Irish woman who posts here and Carlos Bustamonte would love to go live on that island. I’ve read that Hawaii is now quite progressive and on the way to becoming a Democrat Island so I guess I should not be surprised that mega-rich members of the GOP finally bought an island.
Merry Christmas to you and family Art and have a magical day!
