Ruh roh! Assemblyman John Perez was just appointed to be the new Assembly Speaker and he is already talking about raising our taxes – again!
Perez also “alluded to proposals to eliminate the rule that the Legislature pass a budget with a two-thirds vote,” according to the Sacramento Bee.
Great. Then he and his fellow Democrats can raise our taxes even quicker…
Did Perez mention any budget cuts at his press conference? Um, no.
And Perez did mention jobs, but then he said he would not work to overturn “Assembly Bill 32, which requires reduction of carbon emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.”
“I haven’t been given anything that convinces me it’s a true impediment to moving the state’s economy forward,” Pérez said.
Hey Perez, how about the fact that AB 32 is a job killer?
I think it is great that a gay Latino is our Assembly Speaker, but this dork wants to raise taxes, doesn’t want to make budget cuts, and doesn’t think AB 32 is a job killer. No bueno!
And won’t raising taxes kill even more jobs? Maybe Perez needs to take some basic economics classes?
Perez is going to force even more Democrats to quit the blue party and go decline to state…
Maybe Perez will be another Don Papi Pulido and show people that sometimes, the worst enemy of working-class Latinos are uppity ones!
Gustavo,
Amen! One of my clients already closed six plants in California. They sent their work to Mexico and Vietnam.
How many Latinos have lost jobs because of the sort of policies put forth by Perez and his fellow hacks?
If only the Reeps weren’t such Mexican haters….
What choice do Latinos have but to file as independents or decline to states?
Uppity? Would you care to define and elaborate on that? In what way is John Perez “uppity”?
With either, Dems reaching 2/3 in both houses, or the 2/3 rule voted out (former scenario much more likely) we could save a lot of the state’s problems by;
finally instituting an OIL-EXTRACTION TAX here in the only oil-producing state in the nation that doesn’t have one;
re-instating the estate tax for dead rich folks;
and rescinding those huge unnecessary corporate tax giveaways that Arnold shoveled into the budget in July.
I don’t think many Californians would object to those three measures — except for Republican politicians that is.
And yeah, Gustavo, do you want to try that again?
This is also a fine articulation of a conservative being more concerned about being doctrinaire (don’t raise taxes in times of plenty and don’t raise taxes in times of want) than with being fiscally sensible. Even Reagan raised taxes out of concern for an increasing deficit.
Anon: “Uppity” means being tone-deaf to the realities of working-class folks. That is the epitome of the Don Papi. Perez? We’ll see.
Vern: If Perez begins calling taxes “revenue enhancers” like Bass did, I will praise this great land anew for making even the lowliest among us vendidos. Also, if Perez was with UFCW at the time of the Gigante supermarket scandal in Anacrime, he was also part of one of OC’s great race hustles of this decade. I’ll leave it up to interested folks to connect the dots on that one…
Gustavo,
I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m so sick of the race hustlers in this state. It makes me angry the way that crooked politicans prey on the latino community the same way crooked clerics preyed on my poor immigrant grandmother.
‘Tavo:
Brand new definition of “uppity” noted. I know you’ve always been on the leading edge of the zeitgeist…
