Lesson #1 for Democrats Last Night

Don’t Try To Be A Republican!

(failed DINO Virginia gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds)

Here’s why Creigh Deeds got only half-hearted support from the Obama administration;  why popular black ex-governor Wilder refused to endorse him;  why Virginian Democratic voters stayed home in droves last night; and why he lost the race by 17 points:  He thought it was a good idea to:deeds obama

  •  run against Obama’s cap-n-trade bill and climate policy, exactly like his opponent; and ran away from his past strong environmental record, even defending the coal industry’s practice of mountaintop removal;
  • spoke out against the Public Option in health care, suggesting he might “opt” Virginia “out” if it passed;
  • opposed the Employee Free Choice Act, repeating the false right-wing claim that it would eliminate the secret ballot in union elections;
  • voted along with his opponent to make English the state’s “official language,” and supported denying undocumented immigrants state or local benefits (more Deedsy DINOism here)

Maybe he forgot Harry Truman’s dictum that “Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time.”  Or as Alpa Chino said to Kirk Lazarus in Tropic Thunder, “Just … BE … Australian!”
