Matt Cunningham hates carpetbaggers – so why is he giving Linda Ackerman a free pass?

That squirelly Jerbal – he bashes carpetbaggers but gives Linda Ackerman a free pass

It figures that a guy nicknamed “Jerbal” would be rather squirelly, but Red County blogger Matt “Jerbal” Cunningham is in a rodent class all his own.

Jerbal has slammed carpetbaggers for years.  He went after Tom Umberg , Carol Rudat, and Harry Sidhu, like a rabid gopher, because they were carpetbaggers.  But Jerbal won’t go after Linda Ackerman for carpetbagging in the race for the 72nd Assembly District, which does NOT include Irvine, where Ackerman lives

Jerbal wrote that “Voters like their local government representatives to be local. Tom Umberg ran into that dynamic when the 3rd District resident ran for the 1st District in the 2006 special election. So did Carol Rudat when she registered to vote in Orange after a 25-year absence, and then spent $200,000 on a failed run for Orange City Council.”

And here’s a Jerbal quote from 2007:

“I’ve heard from Democratic partisans who support Tom Umberg for supervisor who are upset that I point out that Umberg seems to really live in his Villa Park villa rather than in his Santa Ana condo. What about Republicans who are carpet-baggers? they ask. One used Lynn Daucher as an example. Am I being a hypocrite? Absolutely not. Anyone who has read this blog or my columns knows that I hammered Lynn Daucher early and often. Some of my criticism was directed at her policies, but I repeatedly called her a carpet-bagger who was not right for the district.

It’s a pet peeve of mine when candidates refuse to actually live in the district they represent. Sen. Lou Correa had deep roots in the 34th Senate District, which, in and of itself, made him more credible than Daucher, who — as a mailer for Lou pointed out — seemed to be shopping for a district.”

That was then.  Now Jerbal writes, “Linda Ackerman will get hit with carpet-bagging charges. Those, in my opinion, are less damaging because the higher the officer, the less voters seem to care about residency. Although Linda Ackerman moved out of Fullerton several years ago, she and Dick have deep roots in the city where her husband represented for years on the city council, and in the Assembly and state Senate. On the other hand, Fullerton is an old school north-central OC city much less accustomed to transient residency than the cities of South County. Properly played, the carpet-bagging charge could take a bite.”

But Jerbal isn’t biting.  And today he deleted a Red County post by Allan Bartlett today that featured the Ackerman carpetbagger video you can still see here at the Orange Juice, at this link

The cover-up is on at Red County.

Shame on Jerbal for being even more of a hypocrite than usual!  He said Daucher was “shopping for a district.”  Well Jerbal, what about Hackerman?

In related news, the lame Republicans in the State Senate are bending over for Hackerman the carpetbagger.  How many of these buffoons endorsed Mike Duvall?  Here is their press release:
