Melahat Rafiei wants to hire a political director for the DPOC, for $9.61 an hour
“The Democratic Party of Orange County is accepting applications for the immediate hire of a full-time Political Director,” according to an email that the Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) sent out this week. Here’s the kicker – “Salary range is is $20,000 – $28,000 per annum plus health care benefits.”
What kind of political director is the DPOC going to hire for $9.61 an hour? What a joke! And it’s not like they are looking for someone to make photocopies. The Political Director’s job includes, but is not limited to, the following staff functions:
- Work with Executive Director to implement strategic plan for 2010
- Coordinate all events for “34 City Strategy”
- Oversee 2010 election field analysis
- Manage DPOC Internship Program – including recruitment and training of interns
- Liaison to chartered democratic clubs, college and high school democratic clubs in Orange County
- Manage volunteers and precinct captains
- Interface with local candidates and campaigns
- Build coalitions with progressive organizations in Orange County
- Work with Executive Director on major events
- Responsible for day to day office management
But wait, that’s not all…The Political Director position requires proven leadership and judgment with a high level of grassroots political organizing. Applicants must have experience in developing and implementing comprehensive political plans with previous campaign, state party or non-profit managerial-level experience. Experience working with web-based voter files, strong written, verbal communications and analytical skills are also required.
All that for less than ten bucks an hour? Is that even a living wage?
If you are jobless and desperate, here are the details about applying for this low-paying job:
Deadline for resume submission is 5:00 pm, Wednesday, August 19, 2009.
Applicants should supply a cover letter, salary history and references. All materials to be emailed or faxed to: Melahat@ocdemocrats.org or (714) 835-3685.
No phone calls please. The Democratic Party of Orange County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
If they don’t want phone calls why did they include Melahat’s phone number? Weird…
just a little correction on your article, looks like that # there is a fax number, not a phone#.
#1,
You’re right! My bad. Here is her number: (714) 835-5158 – I suggest folks call her and demand a living wage for the eventual poor political director…
$9.61 an hour?
Damn! Bacerra’s mom pays him a bigger allowance than that.
Looks like he’ll still be moochin’ drinks off me.
Melahat was put in for her fund raising abilities, yet they have no money over there. I wonder if someone is skimming off the top?
You are all crazy. No one is stealing. No one is paying Phil Bacerra, and 20-28k (while small) is a reasonable amount for an entry level position in a party that relies on solid young talent to work their way up…
And, PLENTY of people will be putting in resumes. IN case you missed it, the economy is in a depression and Liberal jobs in OC are scarce at best… they also offer health care? Not too bad!
What party are you with now Art? Who is their Poly Director?
#5,
You guys are asking an underpaid political director to basically do Melahat’s job while she is distracted by the Krom campaign. Good luck with that!
If your party was serious about winning you would have to pay at least 75 to 90 K to get a real political director.
It looks like 2010 will be another bad year for the DPOC…
That looks like a lot of running around, too.
No mention of reimbursing for $$$$$ GAS, either.
You would think the Dems would have capitalized on the Obama win last November and tried to strengthen the party in a serious way.
These wages are there to attract a college student that can’t find a job, at best.
And this should bother us because . . . (???)
Ron,
Well, on principle we should be offended that the party of the so-called “living wage” isn’t up to paying living wages.
More importantly, I want to see them do well so they can take out a few bad Republicans. But the DPOC is a mess! They are a minor league party operation trying to contend in the major leagues! no bueno…
I agree with Art on this one. Although $25,000 is good pay in a bad economy, if you want strong dedicated staff, you better pay a heck of a lot more than $25K. Cheap bastards!!
Red Vixen, I agree, the Dems here in CA haven’t achieve much for the Obama win. Maybe Sanchez is still pissed that Hilary didn’t win.
This is a perfect job for the Unemployed Planner aka Phill “the moocher” Bacerra. Hell, he’s been wanting Melahat’s DPOC job ever since he got fired from the DFOC. Since he’s used to being a slave boy to Tommy Boy Gordon he should have no problem being a slave to Melahat. Will this job require him to wear a collar and be lead around by leash?
I hear that Melahats girlfriend Misha Houser is being assured the job. Thats because Melahat wants a piece of the side money that Misha is going to make by extorting candidates for cash in order to get endorsements from ECCO and now the dpoc.
#5 is right, nobody is paying Phil Bacerra anything. The loser doesn’t have a job.
He and the goofball with the big ears are constantly mooching drinks off me and anyone else gullible enough to buy.
I just buy them drink so they will leave me alone and stop talking to me. How many times must I hear about how awful the OJ is and how evil Art and Sean are?
Maybe the same kind of person that becomes a Westminister council person for $600. per month but drives a $100K car.
Let’s not forget Jerbals bass Huffington who was a MULTI-MILLIONARE and risked it all to be a $150k per year senator??????
