As a Fountain Valley resident, I have seen Councilmember Gus Ayer working diligently to help Fountain Valley to be an even “nicer” place to live. I know he worked hard to support all citizens here, whatever their political affiliation or personal interests. He worked on projects such as the Sports Park of Mile Square Park, and on helping to encourage drought-tolerant plants native to Orange County, as two examples.
My husband and I felt secure knowing he was looking after the city of Fountain Valley’s needs. And I know many others in the community have appreciated his hard work.
I was very disappointed to see that election mailers had gone out that lied about Councilmember Ayer; that said he didn’t want any free parking, or would force people to use podcars. Councilmember Ayer would not nor could not force these things on people; but at the same time, there is really no “free parking” anyway; it costs taxpayers already to own the land, pave it, keep it maintained and clean, and deal with the watershed problems that occur due to parked cars. The book “The high cost of Free Parking” would go into this issue. So whether by taxes, or parking meters, we pay to park.
Podcars are one future opportunity for our important transportation needs, and are used elsewhere as a new technology, but Councilmember Ayer I am sure, had no intentions of forcing this on anyone, just offering them the opportunity to consider it.
So lies like these hurt him being re-elected, but I respect Councilmember Ayer for the work he has done during his term.

Excellent points, “Wondering One.” FV residents were very wise not to entrust their finances to a clown like Matt McCurdy.

Disgusted, I didn’t see that. Do you have a link, or remember around how long ago it was?

Yes, we saw that. If you’re going to slam someone, why can’t you get his or her name correct? Your credibility is really diminished when your emotion and hatefulness gets ahead of your brain. Or can’t you even copy off one of his yard signs?

Can you get this question correct? How many incumbents lost their positions across the county? Wasn’t Ayer the only one?

How do you even spend $55,000 on a City Council race in Fountain Valley?

There are about 15,000 voter households, and it would only cost about $5,000 to mail every one of them. Did McCurdy do seven pieces of mail? I know there were two flat-out hit pieces against Ayer, but what else did he spend his money on?

Looks like the consultants saw McCurdy coming and took him for every dime he had.

And who did he think was going to pay back the “loans” that he gave himself?

Yo, dipstick…why don’t you fess up and admit to everyone that you first published that post identifying McCurdy as “Mike”? You’re really on your game, Nelson.

You also didn’t mention that your boy Ayer placed fourth out of four and that McCurdy beat him in the vote tally. This means a six-year incumbent placed last — and it wasn’t his time spent helping Cook lose by 12 POINTS — it was simply that Fountain Valley figured out he was a screaming liberal lunatic and people were tired of being represented by an out of work slob.

Is McCurdy another drunk like Mayor John Collins, who needs a couple stiff Long Island Iced Teas to get him home after a Council Meeting? I’ve heard Collins sometimes pours his third drink into a to-go cup to brace him on the way home.
