James Dobson’s Christian Organization, Focus on the Family, will be cutting 20% of its workforce in the form of layoffs. The layoffs come just a short time after spending over $600,000 to take family rights away from married gays. The cash spent on passing Proposition 8 in California would be equal to the salaries of 19 Coloradans earning the 2008 per capita income of $29,133. In a twist of irony and a sad commentary on the organization’s priorities, Focus on the Family lost sight of its own family members in its own state of Colorado that will affect some 200+ employees.
Critics are holding up the layoffs, which come just two months after the organization’s last round of dismissals, as a sad commentary on the true priorities of ministry.
“If I were their membership I would be appalled,” said Mark Lewis, a longtime Colorado Springs activist who helped organize a Proposition 8 protest in Colorado Springs on Saturday. “That Focus on the Family would spend any money on anything that’s obviously going to get blocked in the courts is just sad. Prop. 8 is guaranteed to lose, in the long run it doesn’t have a chance — it’s just a waste of money.”
From where I stand, Hate and Bigotry sure have gotten expensive for those who dish it out.
Red,
Nice post.
It always makes my heart bleed when I hear something negative about James Dobson and company.
This proves he cares little about helping families and more about destroying families.
Red,
Dobson is the Grinch!
Maybe Sarah Palin could donate her wardrobe to Dobson. That’s the least she could do for all of his support and lobbying.
Heh, good points, folks.
I wonder how much Dobson pulls down for a salary and perks? He’s only got 950 more employees to go before he’s laid the entire lot off to focus in on their own families!
Let them eat hate 😉
tmare,
Sarah is looking at a multi-million dollar book deal for her failed attempt to become VP. Think she’ll throw a million so to Dobson to help him out? Ha!
Dobson put out a disgraceful fictional “Letter From 2012 in Obama’s America”, before the elections this past October in which he attempts to scare his followers into voting against Barack Obama or there would be catastrophic consequences to the nation. He really owes us all an apology. Luckily not a whole lot of us listen to James Dobson and his sham of Christian thuggery with any regularity.
