Just stating what I’d do on MY threads. And, really, I don’t care about how many dopples people choose to use or not use. If they are not attacking other posters – that includes me- in a way that creats a hostile environment, then who cares?

This is ONLY a message board. If you want people to feel good about being here, quit pointing out that you “know” who is posting what b/c of IP’s etc… No one likes snoops and tattletales. Maybe we need a post on netiquette?

Over a year ago I suggested that anonymous is OK if they add a uniqe letter or number along iwth anonymous so that we can differentiate between two or more anonymous posters on the same story.
In fact, while I have never signed on with any name other than my own, I have no idea who you are be it by name or in person. Yet it’s OK for you to take me to task on my posts as you recently did supporitng Frank Ury. I have no problem if you must protect yourself due to a concern about your job if that be the case. However, think about the level playing field as a fellow Orange Juice blogger when you don’t ID yourself and I do in my comments on your stories. Just a thought. Larry Gilbert

I disagree with both the use of both ghosting by “staff” and deletions. (Accountability is important to me as is fairness.)
Both of which I view as ethics violations. Redacting for language use is fair, and simply taking someone out isn’t, in my mind. I even stuck up for Sean when they booted him. To be sure, there are those who’s “name shall not be spoken” (Harry Potter) who I have to agree are so overboard that I understand why they are not allowed to post, but that is exceptional to the rules.

This is exactly why I was trans-orbital yesterday. Even if the discussion turned out OK, the ends does not justify the means, in my opinion.
I know I have very old fashion ideas in some regards, but I really do try to fair to everyone, even if we disagree.

I also do not own the site or make the rules, I can only disagree and try not to become what I see as wrong in the process. Yesterday I walked that line much closer than I would have liked and don’t feel good about it, but I attempted not to cross over it in the process and why I said it was SO tough.
I hope that my position on this is pretty clear. We can continue this in email if you like anytime, it is kind of inside stuff and I don’t know if anyone else really cares how deeply I feel about the subject.

You know Carl, while I like knowing some of the commenters and bloggers I’m finding a whole new experience in anonynmity. I did attempt to choose a screenname that is androgynous so that gender would also be masked. I have noticed that I tend to react differently based on how much information about the poster that I possess. When I have no other frame of reference than the comments posted then I react or over-react based on only my reading or mis-reading of the post. I can make no assumptions based on past association, gender preconceptions, or sometimes even political preconceptions and that seems to me to be in itself a benefit, at the very least its a novel experience. One I’m still processing. I think we all are still processing this new blogesphere. What a grand experiment! Lets go back to numbers as a co-identifier and allow those who wish to use the common anon or the less common anonymous (as well as the talented and charming Anonyms) to continue in this experience.

That’s exactly why I asked for you and others who a regulars to pick pen names that are unique. I know who you are (by your log in at the admin level, if from nothing more than IP address) but can’t use that uniqueness to address you. It would make all our lives easier if everyone would at least pick a name and try to stick to it if for nothing more than civility.
