Our former blogger Sean Mill had some choice words for his former blog colleagues over at the Liberal OC today regarding Supervisor Janet Nguyen’s overwhelming victory yesterday:
The fact that you folks are celebrating a win by Janet Nguyen, a Republican, in a district that is overwhelmingly Democratic demonstrates to what a complete and utter failure the DPOC is. The fact that you are rejoicing a Republican victory in central Orange County speaks volumes to the ineptness of those at the helm of the DPOC.
The leaders of the DPOC have failed Democratic voters, labor and all others who want to see Democrats elected to office. Isn’t the main function of the party apparatus to find viable candidates to run for these seats and to then get those candidates elected? If so, they have failed.
Central OC is the only part of this county where Democrats have a stronghold and yet the party even managed to screw that up. Sure Lou and Loretta win there, but they win despite the party. Lou and Loretta have operations outside the party and depend very little on support from the party.
So live it and be happy knowing that the DPOC is responsible for a Republican getting elected in central OC. I keep hearing about what a “great” job the leaders of the DPOC a doing. Really? Where?
The reason for rising registration numbers is more a result of George W. Bush than it is the DPOC. If this is the type of leadership we can expect from the DPOC and the type of support we can expect from their friends, we might as well elect Scott Baugh to lead the party because those folks are doing a great job electing Reeps.
You have four years to now cultivate a Democratic candidate to run for the First District. But thankfully we most likely won’t have to rely on the DPOC to do that and Jose Solorio will step up and run. Jose, like Lou and Loretta, will likely succeed in spite of you all.
Congrats again of getting a Republican elected in a overwhelmingly Democratic district. You should all be so proud.
Sean also was rather gracious about Nguyen’s victory. Here is the letter he sent her:
I would just like to offer my congratulations on your victory last night. Clearly I did not support your candidacy and wehave strong disagreements over some of your decisions on the Board of Supervisors but the voters have spoken and it is now time to move forward.
I am truly concerned with makingour community a better place to live and work for all of our residents. I hope that over the next four years you will dedicate yourself towards improving the quality of life in the First District for all of our residents. Santa Ana is the heart of this district and I hope that you will strive to make sure that we get our fair share.
I wish you well in your endeavor and hope that you will place good policy over politics. Again congratulations on a hard fought victory and should you ever need my help please don’t hesitate to call me at (714) xxx-xxxx.Though we may disagree over how to do it, I believe we both want to see our community flourish and grow.

Blame the party all you want for not working with and pushing for a plan B if Joe Dunn chose not to run. They effed that one up.
However, the failure of Hoa Van Tran as a candidate was not the fault of the DPOC. Mr. Tran failed to distinguish himself to the voters as worthy of being elected. If it were true that the Democratic Party and Labor were responsible for the success of candidates then we would have Supervsor Umberg right now. The bottom line is that the candidate must be able to survive the scrutiny of a campaign. If the cannot do so, no matter how much money and party support they have, they will not win.
Many Democrats encouraged Hoa Van Tran to clean things up in his campaign. He chose to ignore that advice. He was told that just because you are a Democrat, does not guarantee votes in a non-partisan election, he chose to ignore this fact. He was told that Edgardo was a cancer upon his campaign, because of his conduct, not because he and the ED of the Party did not get along. Hoa Van Tran chose to ignore that advice. His own campaign staff warned him of problems, which he ignored, forcing ethical individuals to report alleged improper conduct. Rather than address those issues, Hoa and his canpaign issued retaliatory lawsuits to slap dow criticism.
The only person to blame for Hoa Van Tran’s miserable failure of a campaign, is Hoa Van Tran.
Again, any wagers on how long until Sean is invited to re-join Orange Juice?

Before then, he did NOTHING to help the Democratic Party. Now that he’s a commissioner, does he feel like he has to call the shots? Please!!!!!!

The Misha photo’s have nothing to do with what I said. The DPOC dropped the ball big time on this entire race. I guess they couldn’t find another “white guy” to run when Joe Dunn dropped out.

But as far as the whole fiasco involving Misha, Courtney, et al that will play out in the courts. The saga in the courts commences Friday morning at the Central OC Superior Courthouse.

It’s a major improvement, that’s for sure.
I’d recommend toning down the orange. It’s a little too much orange. And it’s difficult to tell the “recent Comments” apart.

BTW Art, if Santa Ana is such a cesspool of crime and corruption,why do you still live there? I’m sure realtors in SA just love what you’re doing to promote the city. I took office space in SA because I think the city has cleaned up pretty well over the past 10 years. It still has problems, but so do other cities the size of Santa Ana.
Lastly, I would not position Sean’s departure from our Blog as a boot. And I do not speak ill of Sean. We disagree on the Hoa Van Tran campaign, but Sean has a great deal of integrity and I respect him.

You do have a tendency to be just a wee bit competitive (ok, maybe a lot competitive), and I think it clouds your judgment to the point of it overruling your own personal politics as long as there is a win in it for you.
You’ve always seemed to be a gentleman to me, so what do you really stand for? Somehow I have a feeling you don’t truly agree with a lot of the closed-minded ‘truthiness’ your party is having you disseminate. I hope/think you’re better than that.
