I quit as a City Commissioner after my fellow Commissioner and blogger Thomas Gordon was ousted from the EPIC/Gang Commission. His ouster was unfounded and without justifiable cause. I quit to signal my disgust with the City Council for their behavior towards Mr. Gordon. My resignation made it to the AP Wire, which I am told drove the Mayor, Miguel Pulido, absolutely nuts.

Cute. Real cute. I defended you on Red County even though I thought you were exaggerating about how important gender was in this decision. To be clear, I do think it was a factor and I defend your right to say so, but I don’t think it was the ‘tipping point.’ I think it was merely one ‘trait‘ of many that the Supes were looking for.

Although I called Bustamante’s remarks offensive and he a “Whiney White Guy” (complaining that he is losing opportunity whenever some previously oppressed minority gets a step up), I don’t think it warrents removal from his position. A strong slap on the hand, maybe, and he’s apparently getting that now, and perhaps a few lessons on history & sociology.

If he had made these remarks about or to an employee under his supervision, there should be some more serious reprocusions. But that is more about POWER.

By considering taking such strong action as job removal, simply for a thoughtless and stupid remark, gives fodder to the poster who claimed that “Feminism” is the direct opposite of “Misogyny.” Now THAT is an offensive remark! Having lived through and worked for the rise of the feminist movement in the 70′s, I can assure you guys out there that we do not hate men.
