MORE Angelina Jolie politics here!

UPDATE: Click here to read about Jolie’s apparent hatred for President Barack Obama
Yesterday I read an interesting interview with Hollywood star Angelina Jolie in this week’s Entertainment Weekly. I always figured she was a Democrat. But when Jolie was asked if she got into arguments about politics with director Clint Eastwood, a noted Republican, when they filmed a movie together recently her reply was a stunner. She is not a Democrat. And it turns out she is very bright. Here is what she sad, “I think people assume I’m a Democrat. But I’m registered independent and I’m still undecided. So I’m looking at McCain as well as Obama.”
And Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt, are thinking of making a movie based on the famous book by Libertarian author Ayn Rand, “Atlas Shrugged.” Who knew?
And if you think that Jolie is some kind of nutty peace activist, you could not be more wrong. Check out what she said about bringing bad guys to justice:
I am a strong believer that without justice there is no peace. No lasting peace, anyway. I’m somebody who’s very curious about the International Criminal Court and supportive of following through on the arrest warrants in Darfur. I’m not somebody that just wants to hold up a white flag and say, ”Let’s all just get along.” I think people that do horrible things should be held accountable. I don’t think like in Wanted — which is an action movie — people should [just] be killed. I think there should be trials and justice. But the idea behind Wanted is not that she’s a badass assassin that just likes to kill people. It’s that, if you ran into Hitler before he did everything, and you knew, should you shoot him? And I would. These assassins are getting lists: They find out who is going to slaughter other people ahead of time and they remove them. So that was the side of me that identified with her. But it is a confusing thing, certainly for rights activists. Don’t read too much into it. I am holding a gun, but there are so many people that have done so many horrible things… Pol Pot died a grandfather in the jungle, most likely of old age. Never was punished for what he did.
And Jolie clearly believes in gun rights. The necklace she wore during her interview was a gold representation of a machine gun that her oldest son drew for her (see the picture above, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly). Pitt had the drawing turned into a necklace charm for Jolie. How romantic!
Wow. What a woman! Read the entire Entertainment Weekly interview with Jolie by clicking here.

Everything she says here sounds sensible… except for “looking at McCain.” What’s she thinking, has she been too busy working on movies and charities to look at his record and statements on Iraq and foreign policy and the economy, and to think about the judges he would appoint to the Supreme Court? I hope she takes a couple days off to read before she says anything like that again.
Are you sure Clint’s still a Republican? His work has been getting more and more independent and sometimes even liberal, and he and Maria Schreiber’s brother were just removed from the Coastal Commission by the nearly-Democrat Governor Schwarzenegger – for being TOO ENVIRONMENTALIST – i.e. siding with us Pro-Trestles activists against building a highway thru San Onofre State Park.
Confusing world when Hollywood plops its ass into politics. Oh well at least we know where John Cusack stands (great vid here, I should think of an excuse to post it)

Brains and beauty, no wonder I’ve had the hots for her… and glad she has an open mind too!
Nice strawman Vern, and I’ll call you on every one of them I find! You just have to drag out your party line each and every time.
Vern,
I was shocked to find some sensible thinking in her comments. “looking at McCain” is just “looking” and the same for Obama. Most people that vote don’t even bother.
A machine gun necklace? Does she have a sister?
What strawman, Carl? I never pretended Art said something he didn’t say, or Angelina either.
And no, you get in line behind me for Jolie.
Is it that she’s “open minded” enough to “be looking at McCain”, and that alarms me?
I’ve been looking at McCain since before 2000, I used to think he wouldnt make too bad of a President. In 2004 I even wrote him and got a lot of other friends to write him to try to be Kerry’s running mate; reportedly he considered that fora while.
But he seems to have changed since then, and… well, I listed my main concerns above already.
I didn’t bring partisan into this, Art was impressed that she’s DTS like him, and then said Clint is a Republican which I’m not sure if that’s still true…
anyway pretty sure my comments are still straw-free!

Any gal who wears of vile of blood around her neck, is well, open minded. Or does her much talked about bisexual lifestyle get you hot?
all of above
I’m glad to see she’s giving her fans such food for thought, particularly after she says she’s deciding between Obama and McCain. If she’s informed, she’s already decided, no matter what she tells a magazine writer. It’s interesting she doesn’t seem to know she can’t register as an “Independent.” There’s no such choice on the California voter registration form, and “Decline To State” is not synonymous with independent — it means exactly what it says. The closest choice in name only is American Independent Party, and I seriously doubt that’s what she means. Voters have the option of selecting “other” as their political party designation. They could write in Beer Party if they wished.
You guys need to stay focused on her looks, even if it means tripping over your tongues.
Works for me too!
Vern -
I thought McCain and her dad (Jon Voight for those who don’t know) were buddies or something. It makes sense that she’d give him a chance at least.
… and her views sound an awful lot like those of someone else on this blog.

[Update: Jolie and Voight are estranged. I can only assume she's giving McCain 'a chance' because she's open minded like that. It doesn't mean she's settled for him yet... and I do mean 'settled!' Remember, he used to be a 'maverick.']
Observer:
Seems like the guys are tripping over something besides their tongues …
Sweetelle,
You are probably right about most guys but I’m way too old and past caring about tripping over anything. What intrigues me is she seems to be a thinker, like our new Sheriff. I like these women who are smarter, faster and better than I was in my youth. There will always be men who make “Bustamante” type remarks and I admit I’ve made my share. But that doesn’t mean I don’t respect these women. It just means I came from another time and am learning to adapt, overcome and improvise.
Hey, anony, I admire your honesty and willingness to adapt, overcome and improvise (hmm, I think improvise is good —). I also think it’s important that in these changing times, people don’t lose their senses of humor.
In that vein, I was trying to be funny – I hope that’s what came across. I’m pretty desensitized to sexual innuendos (I wrote a comment in yesterday’s Liberal OC that was substantially censored – but the gist of it was that women in law enforcement are accustomed to hearing MUCH worse than Bustamante’s trite bra joke). I agree with you that there will never be a shortage of oafs like Bustamante making ill-considered wisecracks. And, unfortunately, there will always be women who perpetuate unflattering stereotypes (Paris Hilton comes quickly to mind). I guess as long as everyone recognizes there are great talents and great thinkers (and, conversely, great doofuses – or would plural be doofusi?) on both sides of the gender/race/ethinic spectrum, we’ll eventually all get to a place where we assess someone’s words (or better yet, actions) without factoring in whether it came from a woman, and whether that woman was frumpy or gorgeous, etc., etc. I appreciate that Jolie has never shied away from controversy and her humanitarian efforts have been remarkable. Physicality, sexuality, vials-of-blood-around-the neckality really shouldn’t factor into it!
Sweetelle,
Your humor was not lost on me. I’m sure all the guys got it too. Keeping your sense of humor is almost a major requirement in todays world. Sorry to read you were censored on some other blog. That is probably why I hang around here and don’t read the other blogs. The cross section of bloggers generally come up with all sides of an issue and if they don’t some of the people who comment do. It’s a pretty comfortable place to be no matter where you stand on an issue.
I agree the new sheriff can handle whatever is thrown at her. If she could handle the LASD academy she can handle just about anything including mysogenistic (sic?) remarks.
WHOA! CENSORSHIP ON LIBERAL OC?! I’M SHOCKED! lmfao
